Boo hoo!
Can we put this to bed now please!
You mean like Taylan May nearly did - permanently - to that poor bloke he assaulted?

A few centimetres the wrong way and he cracks his skull on that concrete wall. But sure, nothing to see here.

It’s not hand-wringing to think a player should be suspended for an unprovoked assault from behind. Especially when players have been suspended for far less.
I can only assume that the judge has information we aren't privy to to record no conviction. It wasn't a great look on the video and if he had copped a sanction I wouldn't have a problem with it. From what we do know the pudgy f**ker that got collared was being an A grade wanker. Play stupid games, get stupid prizes. It was a dumb thing for Taylan to do, but imo hardly the crime of the century. He is lucky that old mate didn't crack his head on the floor and cop a serious injury, but he didn't so you can't punish someone for what might have happened.

The NRL have f**ked things up the way they have handled it, but does anyone seriously expect them not to?

Give it a rest Skeepe! Think about what some of the Raiders have done off field over the last few seasons and put your moral outrage in your back pocket and Shut Up!

Ha ha. Your boy Jack could have killed someone with his indiscretion a few years ago, but he didn't. Coulda, woulda, shoulda doesn't come into it.

Wow, that is just taking the piss.

Just goes to show you how far the game has sunk into the mire. Even Cameron Smith missed a Grand Final to suspension, you know, back when the administration wasn't a complete and utter joke.

You know there is a difference between suspensions for on field incidents and off field incidents don’t you?

They pleaded precisely because of the deal on offer
I am no sharks fan but this is as true as it gets. It was plead guilty or be found innocent (at best) and still lose your house due to legal fees.

May has just recently been found guilty of assault, yes no conviction recorded, but still found guilty.
The "new" ban. as you riff fans might like to call it, is a band because he has been found guilty.
Its nothing short of an absolute disgrace that its been deferred.

What about Latrell having illegal get together with unregistered firearms during Covid and getting 1 week?
Or him getting a week off his suspension for an exhibition game that the vast majority of NRL players aren't eligible for?
The moral outrage here is quite amazing. Would you be all so outraged if it was a player from a bottom team?
By the way apparently the victim had been warned by the security a couple of times to go away and stop harassing the patrons. So it wasn't totally unprovoked. Stupid indeed, but not a hanging offence.

IMO, the annoying point about this particular incident is the players dumb decision to go to a pub were the chances of crossing with a drunk f**k-wit, especially in a place they are not familiar with were very high.
Also, the bouncers should have read this situation better by giving him the flick before it kicked off.

Excellent comparison. How long was Simple Jack suspended for by the NRL for that incident?

I agree that the league has handled this poorly but the 2 weeks feels about right; similar to what Cody Walker got.

The postponement of the suspension just sucks; I can’t for the life of me understand what the NRL is doing (particularly considering this has been on their radar for almost a year). If they had of come out straight away last week when the decision came down and given him two weeks, Penrith fans would have grumbled he is missing a final while all other fans would have grumbled he was missing a game he had already not been selected for. And everyone would have been equally unhappy; which seems to be the level of the NRL’s ambition.

Lmao.
Only the NRL could come up with something like this.

I look forward to delayed/deferred suspensions to become the new normal in the coming weeks and years.

How did he provoke May, who he never even looked at or spoke to?

Looking at the footage, the bloke was trying to leave the venue and Cleary blocked him from doing so. Why? If he was causing trouble, why stop him leaving?

Let’s say the dude WAS being a wanker to Cleary and the others - May wasn’t involved until he committed the assault. In what world is that provocation? It was a cowardly unprovoked assault. You can’t attack a bloke because he’s being a wanker.

As for your whataboutism - sure, the Raiders have had off-field indiscretions, what club hasn’t? But every single time the club has suspended them. The Panthers weren’t going to punish May at all, and the NRL have decided he can serve his suspension when it’s convenient for him and his club. Not remotely similar, because no club has ever received this kind of preferential treatment for their criminal player before.
