It doesn't really matter whether he does or doesn't.TDS is miles ahead of Ryley Smith. He won’t be coming off the bench.
Smith isn’t going to be a ball playing lock.It doesn't really matter whether he does or doesn't.
If TDS is good for say 50-60mins at Dummy half, and Smith is good for 50-60mins split between dummy half and another position (a middle ball-playing lock) then we're sweet.
And you throw Walker in the mix for that ball-laying lock role - and make Hopgood a traditional middle a bit like Paulo - then it's a very exciting three way we've got this year into next year.
We never know the way the game, rule changes and coaching tactics could evolve in coming years....Smith isn’t going to be a ball playing lock.
If your 6 needs a spell then he’s not a first grader to begin with.We never know the way the game, rule changes and coaching tactics could evolve in coming years....
Look at us (and actually successful teams) shift from having big bopper middles to having smaller more mobile packs. Maybe Smith could help give Papalli a spell at 6 instead of spelling Walker at 13, the future possibilities are out there for Ryles to try and shape.
Call me crazy but I think Ryley could turn into a Max Plath style player. Start at 9 then play as a roaming middle.
Watson, Crossland and even Starling all do similar.

Totally sane... spending some minutes as a ball playing middle lock.Call me crazy but I think Ryley could turn into a Max Plath style player. Start at 9 then play as a roaming middle.

Probably true... but it's also about mixing up our attack options (mid game), so we're a less predictable proposition for our opposition. If your 6 needs a spell then he’s not a first grader to begin with.
