As long as he doesn't price himself out.

He'll go to the highest bidder for sure but I can't see him getting top dollar. I'd like to see him stay as that back-up utility player within the squad who isn't in the top team if everyone is available. Maybe he could play off the bench at full strength if it suits the team.

I just don't see where the benefit is in developing these guys. Every club does it so it's a bit of rob peter to pay paul, but you gotta scratch your head sometimes.
There doesn't seem to be much love going around these days. LG is a perfect example.
It was our club that coached him, guided him and gave him a debut whilst he had no hair on his chin or the other end. It wasn't the Dogs, it was us!
In the end, he said Benji can't coach, see you later. What the?
There was no mention about us helping him with his career thus far. What a self entitled world we live in.

Agreed. Galvin seems like an arrogant entitled prick.

The two reasons Wests Tigers were happy to cut Da Silva immediately
By Christian Nicolussi
July 1, 2025 — 5.11am

Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson defended the decision to part ways with Tallyn Da Silva immediately, rather than keep him until the end of the season in a bid to help the club avoid a potential fourth straight wooden spoon.

Club junior Da Silva was contracted until the end of 2026, but signed a four-and-a-half year deal with Parramatta on Monday – the final day of the NRL’s transfer deadline.

With co-captain Api Koroisau unavailable this weekend because of concussion, the Tigers will turn to Tristan Hope to play No. 9 against the Roosters, with the club eager to avoid a seventh straight loss.

Da Silva’s exit comes a month after his good friend and fellow junior Lachie Galvin departed for Canterbury. Galvin posted a cheeky ‘perfect’ hand gesture, and a wink, to his social media account when congratulating Da Silva.

Co-captain Jarome Luai, who missed last weekend’s game with a staph infection, but made a point to attend a Tigers’ team meeting before joining NSW Origin camp early Monday, said of Da Silva’s early: “He was in a similar situation to Lachie, he wants more opportunity, everyone is entitled to that. All the best to him and his future. I’m sure he’ll be a great player for a long time.”

Richardson said there were two reasons why it made sense to let Da Silva leave now.

“I went out to see Tallyn’s family two weeks ago; they were really good people, Tallyn wanted to stay, but he wasn’t prepared to stay if Api was going to be extended,” Richardson said.

“We gave him permission to look around, and when he came back with the [Parramatta offer], we had to make a final decision about extending Api, so we decided to do it.

“We wanted Tallyn to make a decision based on what was best for his future. We didn’t want to tell him some bullshit, string him along, only for him to risk missing out on a deal [elsewhere].

“By letting him go, it also gives us extra money in our cap – not only do we save a bit of money this year, but we save significant money next year based on what Tallyn was on.

“At the end of the day, it was the best decision for Tallyn, the best decision for the club, and we were honest with each other.”

Balmain junior and Australian Schoolboy captain Jared Haywood is a dummy-half, but still at least two seasons away from being ready for first grade.

The Tigers will miss Koroisau, Da Silva, Jahream Bula (hamstring), Heath Mason (suspension) and Luai (Origin duty) in this weekend’s clash with the Roosters.

Luai said of being unable to help the Tigers in their loss to the Sea Eagles: “I felt guilty in a way, just not being there for the boys, with the new combinations, a young spine … I felt like those young guys would have had a lot of pressure on them to perform, and I had a part to play in that. They did their best, and we will all learn from it.”

So unbelievably moronic letting him go b4 end of season especially when we are in the predicament with so many spine players unavailable. What makes this decision worse is there is fk all owed to him re his salary for this season.

I actually feel a bit sorry for you guys. I’ve read the entire thread. You need to get rid of Benji, he seems to be the problem from what I can see as an outsider.

If TDS is besties with Galvin he’s prob a Fkwit and a bad influence ..Hope had one shot and then demoted..I wouldn’t give up on him. Same with AD in the halves..we are looking at the spoon .. that was before TDS left .. chill, we be sweet with more money for the 2 bulldogs forwards mentioned Preston and Kikau.. TDS is a minor piece in the puzzle ..We’ve got the backs we need.. it’s the forwards that need to improve and significantly.. I’m getting sick of seeing Twal with ball in hand waddling around the park like a duck

I can see both sides of the argument, especially cap wise. Still, losing so many of our pathway lads is concerning.
It's a predicament that all clubs face.
Ideally these players need at least 2-3 seasons playing 2nd fiddle behind a crafty, seasoned and battle hardened player so he can learn his craft. They shouldn't be rushed.
These youngsters, who are spurred on by hungry managers, don't want to wait. It's understandable.

We don't get much this year but next year we will. Parra made it too tempting by offering him a good contract as of now and our CEO said we won't deny him that. Probably because Taylan and his team were civil about it too, unlike Galvin.
One thing is for sure Ted, we couldn't have two NRL hookers eating $1.35mil out of our cap next year.

As you say, it still doesn't help us with our depth probs unless there's a diamond in the rough named Tristan Hope. Was his signing a smart move by Benji.
You must admit it was an odd pick up so early in the season.

And Haywood goes into the top 30 in '27, he'll be 20 by then.
While I was happy to keep TDS, I don't think it hamper us in the 9 role at all.
The press are having a field day with it, but seriously, he wasn't worth that money YET.

No doubt the cap needs to be spent wisely & in the most optimum way so we can assemble a balanced squad hence I get we may have over invested re the hooking role. However the majority of tds’s salary is paid for this yr & with 2 mths of footy remaining for us he could’ve been useful especially covering for API’s absence.

I don't think Hope is useless, he no doubt will be in the 17 most if not all the time now.
He's going well in cup, may as well start now, a reminder TDS did not play well IMO, in his final game for us.
