But if he can't find another club does that mean that the Tigers still have to honour his contract and they still have salary cap issues?

Interesting though, a guy who has been a regular 1st grader and is only 22 years old. But retain Reddy who has not cemented a place (over Ayshford) in 1st grade who is 27 years old in a couple of days. Makes sense to me.

But with some of the U20's coming on, surely you'd be better off asking Utai (31 years old) and Lote (32 years old) to look elsewhere as well.

Great management at Tiger Town.

Wasn't it Bennett who said that you don't pay a fortune for a front rower? I'd say that about wingers before a front rower.

Hmmm interesting choice for team. Why would you want Blair at 13 and Anasta at 11? Blair has no playmaking skills and IMO we need a lock who can play as a 5/8 style 13. Anasta is a fantastic playmaker and has solid kicking game.

Ayshford is gone from Tigers btw. I would also pick Simona as replacement. He's fast and he has decent size...can also play fullback if needed

The way forwards are used is drastically different to what it was even 7-8 years ago.

These days you have 3 tight forwards (8,10 &13) and two wide running forwards who stick strictly to one side of the field (11 &12)

The days of the ball playing lock are well and truly gone. Second rowers are essentially old school outside centers and locks are basically a third prop.

It's not as easy as that. It's all well and good to say 'ok let's get rid of reddy and keep Ayshford' however other clubs are a lot more likely to take Ayshford then they would reddy. Also (and this is totally an assumption) surely Blake would be on more then reddy, therefore freeing up more of the salary cap.

I don't think the lock position has completely changed, it's just that teams use it in a different way. Manly play Stewart as a ball playing lock still, as do the titans with Ashley Harrison. The cowboys and raiders locks are the old school defensive workhorses with Johnson and fensom, the storms lowrie also fits this category. The sharks and Gallen, and bulldogs and Eastwood are examples of the middle player or 'third prop'.

IMO, the perfect lock excels at all three. Can work, gain metres and ball play when needed but it all depends on how a team plays and their roster.

Stewart wears the 13 however plays right second rower, manly effectively play with 3 link men, or halves. Watmough was manlys lock. Harrison also played right second row and Nate Myles was usually lock.

The main difference between the lock and the true front rower is that the lock does more defensive work and takes fewer hit ups spaced out over the 80mins. They are a 'lite prop' so to speak. Unless they are Paul gallen who is just a freak.

What I'd like:

1. Tedesco
2. Tuqiri
3. Ayshford/Simona (wOuld be willing to give Blake a crack under a new coach)
4. Lawrence
5. Kotobiete
6. Marshall
7. Miller
8. Woods
9. Farah
10. Galloway
11. Anasta
12. Fulton
13. Blair

14. Utai
15. Murdoch-Masila
16. Pettybourne
17. Bell/fotuaika

I for one actually like the anasta signing. I think he is exactly what this side needs. Wont be scared to tell benji he is an idiot when he throws a stupid pass or overcall him if he sees something on.

I agree with you on Anasta being what that side needs however, I think he needs to be played at half. He will bring a desperately needed good long kicking game as well as being a solid defender. The big thing will be his ability to over-call benji when cool-headed plays are needed.

I would also have a starting backrow of

11. Blair
12. Fulton
13. Bell

I feel that our starting defence needs to be solid near the ruck and Bell at lock allows this. With the ruck solid the second rowers can concentrate on defending the fringes without worrying about their inside me all the time. Lamenting letting Gibbs go as he would have been perfect at 13. The problem with Bell at 13 though is that unless we get Kite we will be light on the bench and BMM will have to play prop instead of coming in as an impact second rower. On the plus side our backrow is capable of big minutes with Blair and Fulton able to go the 80.

I do have concerns over Siro and Tedesco. They both are young guys who had season ending injuries. It may be midway through the season by the time Tedesco gets his confidence back in the knee. Who do we play at the back in the meantime? Moltzen is terrible at the back, suspect under the high ball and runs it back with less gusto than my grandma. So do we throw Moltz on the wing and try Koro at the back? Give Simona a run?

As for Siro, he is surely a second rower. Due to the greater impact his shoulder would receive in first grade it would be prudent to let him stay in Toyota cup until he is completely comfortable with the contact.
