Jack Gibson's thought was you pick your best 17, regardless of positions. Then go from there.
JA is not in our best 17. Sadly, he's not even close.
Cartright and/or Brown are infinitely better value to the team.
Please stop making soo much sense Suity. This is not the place for it. Far better taking a position on the coach and his bench and sticking to it regardless of the obvious.

I can understand the hesitation from posters on here with Cartwright his D is iffy.

Why did we extend him though if BA wasn't going to trust him. He was here for 9 months before he earned 2 year extension and barely been used since.

No excuse for Nrown not to be playing.

Fair call. Carty worries me tbh but Brown should definitely be picked ahead of JA. Something has happened there.

I'd have JA outside the 17 but realistically if we had better depth in our squad he should be closer to position 25 than 17.

Why not Rein then? The last two on the bench barely get a go anyway
I was reasonably happy when I heard we got Rein. Thought he'd add value throughout the season.

Only saw 10 min of him in first grade which was f**ken abysmal, but really its not enough to judge him on. Can anyone comment on how he has been going in the lower grades?

I remember he made good runs and looked nippy but he dropped the ball. But while the sample size on the drops is irrelevant the pace isn't. So overall he looked a prospect worth continuing with. But reports from Cup maybe not so good, although it seems they're a bit of a mess of late.

Definitely got more than enough speed and energy. Sometimes thats all that Brown and Moses need.

Funny how he only got picked for two games, and in each game he made a decent run but lost the ball each time. I dare say if he doesn’t drop those balls he gets picked more often.

haven’t seen him in reserves to comment.

I think that supporting (as in bench relief) or backing up the hooker is something that hasn't been the priority it should have been under BA.
Yeah. Just because Rheed can play 80 min, doesn't mean he should.

Needs to be balanced against the impacts to our defence of course. Havent really seen enough of Rein to comment on his defence but I suspect it isn't as good as Rheed's.

Completely agree. I saw a few reserve grade games and although he wasn't outstanding he was certainly worth another go. His intent to run was great because Mahoney was doing very little of it. A hooker who is happy to run at tired and retreating defences offers more than the usual hitup after hitup after hitup.
Soufs basically admitted because we are so predictable they number up in the middle and just smash us.
We are outsmarted, outclassed and out coached when they play us hence the complete domination by them in the last 3-4 years

I'd prefer Bryce. The only real value JA provides is if we injure a half, and even then we're still screwed because he isn't close to first grade standard and this is a finals game. Take the small risk that a half won't get injured and have more punch and options.
Kempy and The Guru agree (as do I and plenty of others). Good listen from 48:15 to about 55:00.

You've got no hooker cover.

That's the issue!!

As I have said, I have no time for JA as a first grader. But I also watched Stone at hooker last year in this game vs Penrith. Ouch.

We don't have a zippy halves/ hooker cover (yes, that IS on BA) - but there is nothing we can do now. Picking Simonsson doesn't fix the missing player.

Guth.

If mahoney goes down, guth to 9 and bailey to 1

So it's not like N Brown or Cartwright are not in contention for a bench spot yet, until the squad is trimmed to 19, and then to 18/17 on game day.

Maybe... BA has decided Jake doesn't get a go this week, but doesn't want to reveal the promotion of N Brown (four forwards bench) or Cartwright (utility swap) in Jake's place until the last possible moment?

But agree with others, not the player's fault but Jake is not in our top 17... and BA is trolling by naming him there - but sadly has shown no desire for alternatives to his default plan and bench to counter different opposition game styles.
