i agree, the club hasnt done a good job replacing that Will Smth role.

My way of thinking is JA lacks any real versatility, why not have a guy like simonson that can atleast cover a lot more positions in case of injury. if anyone gets injuried 1 to 5 you can bet your house on the fact that Drown will be shifted out of the halves for JA. That is something id like to avoid.

Plus BA doesnt like using his bench. might as well have players with versatility for injury cover. Cartwright covers much more than Maka.

A. The last thing in the world we wanted was a Will Smith replacement. We needed to upgrade that spot, not downgrade!

B. Makatoa actually covers the back 5.. Nuikore is sent out to the centres and the shuffle in the back 5 happens from there. Then Maka takes on whatever middle minutes Marata had left to play (if any).

I'm not saying I like Makatoa, but I see how it works. (Don't ask - I have no idea why crazy Brown wouldn't be there)

I think you're better off going with Nrown and Cartwright and taking the odds you don't need to cover those positions, and if you do you do the best you can.

Fair call. Carty worries me tbh but Brown should definitely be picked ahead of JA. Something has happened there.

I'd have JA outside the 17 but realistically if we had better depth in our squad he should be closer to position 25 than 17.

Cartwright defense in NSW CUP is fine. If him and rown on bench Bryce only comes on if injury or if 15 to go and can't find a way through. The guy creates. He is a danger. He scares opposition. Coaches dislike these players.
Makatoa doesn't scare anyone. It's ridiculous.

I was reasonably happy when I heard we got Rein. Thought he'd add value throughout the season.

Only saw 10 min of him in first grade which was f**ken abysmal, but really its not enough to judge him on. Can anyone comment on how he has been going in the lower grades?

Listened to it today, they’re making so much sense it isn’t funny, don’t understand how a nine year veteran coach is making these errors. The main thing for me is if Moses goes down we’re f^*ked anyway. May as well throw a player into the position that can at least play decent RL.

Yeah I noticed that too. I think this whole debate is more about the minutes that BA expects player 17 to get. I'm convinced that rightly or wrongly, BA never wants to use player 17 unless injury or game circumstances mean we have it in the bag. This might be a problem in itself in that the mental cues it gives to the rest of the team when Jake comes on means that we know it is OK the reduce our intensity, aka clocking off. Fwiw, the Cowboys used the Hammer for 4 mins and Neame for 7 mins against the Sharks. So it's not unheard of to rely on your top 15 or 16.

Once Moses is fully cleared I’d be surprised if Jake Arthur stays on the bench. If he does I’ll know that BA is without a doubt not thinking with the best interests of the team.

FMD, BA has a death wish but is as I predicted! If this team loses I hope the club has the guts to sack BA! This was the ideal time to give some different backup players match time as we'll need the full 17 players to win imho. Just proves BA is a stubborn mule who dislikes disappointing players but will only disappoint himself (and probably do himself out of a job) and the fans if we bow out this Friday. But if we win we just cannot beat the next 2 with 15 players.

Played 1 game for Aus.
From memory threw a dummy from dummy half and raced down the blind side to score in the corner.

So Kolc a better half than 12-13 other halves in the comp at the time (don't know how many teams played back then).

I've never criticized JA but have his selection, which is on BA, but JA has been selected at other times without any half being under an injury cloud. And Maka, an honest toiler, but provides little aggression or impact in either D or attack. About as vanilla as you can get. Raiders hardly shaking in their boots with those 2 selections.
