I think we need to temper expectations a little bit with some of these new recruits…

The Doggies trio obviously all have upside and help with our depth but let’s be honest Canterbury let them all walk and none of them are proven first graders.

Plenty of players jump clubs and prove their worth… but plenty don’t.

Agree. If one made it of the three and played 100 nrl games it would be a score.
High chance all 3 fail.

It would be funny if Dogs didn't make the 8 however and all 3 forced their way into our side. I doubt it tho

New faces set to feature for the Eels include pathways products Sam Tuivaiti and Charlie Guymer. Also named is Saxon Pryke and Teancum Brown, who were award-winners of 2024 Jersey Flegg Player of the Year and 2024 Jersey Flegg Coaches Award respectively.

Hmmmm. Teancum Brown. Not sure if that's better than tea and sympathy.

Only a few games in cup nothing to really evaluate him on.
Decent form in NSW Cup. Enough for us to give him a top 30 contract (apparently starting in 2026).

Comparable to Sam Loizou, though more versatile and maybe a better defender.

NSW Cup stats for the 2002 brigade:
Loizou (born '02): 34 games, 21 tries
Samrani (born '02): 19 games, 7 tries
Martin (born '02): 8 games, 8 tries
Russell (born '02): 31 games, 22 tries

Guymer named in the 13

We are getting very light up front.

Hopgood
Williams
Morretti
Guymer
Parker
Pryke

Surely we can develop some sort of edge forward???

It will take time. Next year's team will be the next step to a better roster. I think we've done pretty good considering where we've come from in such a short space of time.

Would have thought Guymer to play in the second row this year.

Maybe Williams is either in the front row or second not a bench rotation with Hopgood

I believe we have some pretty good edge forwards in the lower grades. Jezaiah Funa-Iuta might be the pick of them but he turns 19 this year.

I think high work rate forwards are more valuable in the middle, with athleticism preferred for edge forwards. Guys like Williams and Guymer might be emergency options at edge forward, with these more explosive but less busy merkins being higher priority:

Tuilagi
Cartwright
Kautoga
Doorey

But missed tackle stats rather than tries are really where it's at (imo), to tell whether a Cup merkin has lasting NRL potential.

Agreed, but Loizou's NSW Cup stats have disappeared with his profile. I guess if he plays another game they will restore it.
