He was actually our best forward last year..

Not sure if that says more about him or more about the others..

But..

He was the best..
Griffin has had the luxury of seeing how they train so, I imagine he knows what he is doing. Maybe the Feagai twins need to just perform outstanding well in reserve grade before being promoted to first grade. Having said that I would hav put Ravalawa on the bench and JP on the left wing. For me Williame is a selection out of the blue.

Yeh lawrie was easily our best, I wasn't surprised to see him in the starting side with Vaughan. Our starting props wont look too bad if Vaughan can find that form from a couple seasons ago.

Also, Clune will look a lot better now with some speed on his edge in ramsey. I liked JP but he was way too slow in chasing some of clunes attacking grubbers.

I'm interested in how fui will go at lock.

Don’t mind that 17.
Not sure why Williame is on the bench but in Hook we trust I guess.
DS's post explained it pretty well IMO.

I get the logic behind it and just hope that the players are up to the task.

The injury to Mc Innes has really thrown a very unexpected spanner in the works and it is not as if Hook has a terrible lot to work with at this stage especially with AM & JB coming off major injuries.

I fully expect to see some real enterprise in attack from us and the question will be will that offset any glaring deficiencies in defence.

Here's hoping that TS finds something to inspire him and that he dishes out a bit of "legal" hard stuff and puts the Sharks on notice (especially their halves) very early in the game.

I’m not sure I’d call the coach watching the players train should be called a “luxury”

I'd hazard a guess this is exactly the thinking.

For the whole off season we've been told that Bird will be brought in slowly and won't be expected to play the full 80.

There has been some question around McCullough's ability to play 80.

So your reshuffle options definitely provide cover for both scenarios.

And again, as you mention, we don't know what's been happening in training or how they've been performing. I'd guess that Hook is figuring the Feagai twins need more time to develop. I personally didn't see them offer that much in the trials either but neither did Williame. Williame may be the safe bet at this early point in the season. Given one option would be to have Feagai start with Bird on the bench (which would also cover the 2 shuffle issues), it says to me that the coaching staff think the Feagai twins aren't ready.
Bird & Ramsey could be potent on the left with early ball

Yes and Lomax and Ravalawa will re-unit on the right where most of the tries were scored last season. In attack there will also be Hut and Clune weaving their magic, (let's hope they both produce long kicks into the corners) after all that is why we have Soward on the coaching staff.

But having said all of the above, I will be looking closely for the Dufty x-factor in attack and a vast improvement in defence. Let's hope he comes out cnfident and returns the high ball with vigour.

Of the changes that didn't occur, the one that I am most surprised at is Josh Kerr not being moved back to prop. I appreciate our dearth of second rowers has forced Anthony Griffin to try to manufacture a backrower, but if it is to be Josh Kerr, I would rather he play lock and defend in the middle rather than on an edge.

It would be if you are watching from one of these:

I think should have been JP instead of Ramsay, I will be very happy if I am proved wrong. The other one is fui at lock. He has never impressed me. Though I am not sure of the alternative.

Kerr at backrow and Wiliame on the bench are dare I say, Mary like selections...

Williame, Pereira, Norman & Rav

- IMO all inconsistent remnant Waterboy flotsam

(Capt? Benny probably in the Last Chance Saloon - gone by mid season some say)

And Rav now the universally acclaimed everywhere man panacea
...posited for all positions perchance?

As Hook persists with McFailed detritus
By Hook or by crook
in his Bronco fantasies

...& wild Oates whispers?
Our safe harbour for offloads & Rejected Ones

FMD - it’ll be Bird & Oates (to his wing) & sayonara Feagais & co. as history repeats

Mary-like indeed

....and if I have to endure a down-in-the-mouth lame-duck hangdog Benny presser
I think I’ll scream my way back to the bush

Go Saints!

Our kids will (eventually) save us - despite the ‘adult’ indecisions

Fuimouno started well last year. Really stood out. Then for some reason Mary dropped him or gave him hardly any game time, I think it was after the break during covid/lockdown. Since then he was terrible but I think from trying too hard and trying to make an impact off the bench. If he can get to his best it will be awesome as he has the ability. Played reps for juniors apparently.

Yes yet another one given the McGregor treatment.

Haven't seen anything great about the Feagai twins yet.
