Has anyone entertained the thought that McFly’s contract extension would surely have a clause in it that if we don’t make the 8 he’s gonski. With Gordon the messiah and a businessman, surely there would be this performance component in his contract. There could well be hope for 2020 if we continue to go downhill.

Lomax is actually a fullback. That his preferred position. The only way it will end horribly for Zac is when Widdop returns from injury and McGregor decides to play 3 halves in the same team again.

Time will tell

As indicated by my post, I’ve only expressed an opinion. I might be right, I might be wrong. However, in games (such as this year’s CS, Lomax appeared to be shaky under kicks.

Don’t hold your breath.

The “fun” will really begin when (as reported) Trent Barrett joins The Club (aka SGI).

you're giving our management WAY to much credit.

Would love to see Bird play back row.
I think he would control the defensive reads for that side of the field alongside Lomax which is also a lethal combo in attack (Rava outside of them).
That leaves Tariq on the other side with the youngsters Feagai and Ramsay.

Unfortunately Max is not quite ready WIWO
he needs more time in Reggie’s as basically come out of JF and hardly played any games in even reserve grade.
Bird is a pretty handy option at centre

I can cop the selection of Dufty at fullback and the omition of the
Feagai twins for round 1 but to then replace Bird at centre with ? and to do nothing about the right edge except to put our second best prop there is a step too far for me.

I'd like to see at least one exciting change to the 17. I'd like to see Ravalawa on the bench with Ramsey and JP as our wingers. Let Ford and Ravalawa share the right edge position and watch the fans in the stand rise to their feet whenever Ravalawa receives the ball. He has the size and speed to make the right edge forward position his own. Playing him in rotation with Ford will allow him to ease into the position and gain the experience necessary to be a stand out in our forward pack.

Kerr would then return to the front row (which is our biggest problem area) and together with Vaughan, Alvaro and Faamausili might just form a prop rotation that encourages each other to play out of their skin.

Lawrie can hold down the lock position, improving his passing game and lateral defensive skills each game.

Down the track if we are still struggling, then Ramsey to fullback and the Faigo twins on the wings. Bird should stay in the centres mainly because he will stiffen up the defence out wide on the right and send his winger on the way to the try line with good clean ball; something that has been missing ever since Cooper retired.

I rate the Feagai twins very highly and feel confident that they can handle the wing spots in first grade with ease. Both boys are quicker and more agile than Ravalawa and JP. Both know their way to the try line and can be relied on to take the high ball.

So with a back 5 of Ramsey, Matt Feagai, Bird, Lomax and Max Feagai I think we have a dynamic and solid group of players that will benefit greatly from a full season in first grade. I'm sure each will hold their positions and be the x factor our team surely needs for season 2022.

Clune and Hunt in the halves makes a lot of sense to me right now. McCullguch will provide the stability and leadership in the forwards that has been lacking for many years. Has the ability to implement the coaching staff's game plans and when necessary, play whatever is in fron of him.

Well there you go, doing the best with what we have.

This is the start of a new era for us fans. The Mary/Price years have been draining and hard to watch although Mary did provide more highlights than Price did, having the Saints in the 8 for periods of time and that finals win against the Bronco's the best I have seen since 2010.

Looking forward to some huge changes this season especially when it comes to team selections and style of play. In the Charity shield, Saints defence was poor but in attack with the limited time they had in the opposition half, they looked ok. Lets hope they can outscore what they leak in defence. If Saints win 36 - 34 every week then that will do me.

Hook has put a lot of faith in Bird, McCullough, Hunt and Norman all origin players that can be outstanding on their day. If they can repay his faith and stay fit, Saints will go fine. The test is if they don't perform, will he keep persisting like Mary did. If not then Hook will be no different to Mary. That is my key interest. To see how much Hook is willing to change when Saints don't perform because that was Mary's biggest downfall and what got the fans fuming the most.

During the trials, it was the teams performance in defence that worried me most.

Merrin is capable of playing lock and has done so well in the past. If they can get him back to that form he would be ideal. I would like him at prop to be honest. He has the size. Jackson Ford needs more time and he can develop into a fine lock similar to Cam Murray and Radley. He is more mobile than Merrin. Bird is also the other top option but we need a quality centre as well and he fits that mould at the moment.

Not expecting any changes from the side that ran out for the opening half of the CS, apart from the forced ones.

I think Hook will run with that structure for at least the first month. Only changes would be if we are getting flogged each week.

It will be interesting also to see the squads for KOE and JF.

I hope not. I don't want to see Kerr in the 11 again and I think Ravalawa is a better option than Periera.
I want Kerr and Vaughan starting props with Po and maybe Alvaro on the bench and Lawrie starting lock with Merrin on the bench. Fui or Ford to 11.
Bench - Ford, Alvaro, Po, Merrin.

I want Merrin in the lock spot, I reckon he'll go fine.
CC

I'd start with Lawrie at lock so we have our best 3 big men on the field together to begin ( Vaughan Kerr Lawrie ) and Merrin the bench lock, coming on later against tiring defence as he is the most skillful of our forwards.

Merrin or Lawrie at 13 would be a genuine embarrassment, especially Merrin. The supporters of rival clubs will be laughing their heads off, if they aren't already.

The Titans recruited Tino F as their 13 and meanwhile the Dragons are looking at either Merrin, Lawrie or an alleged rapist who hasn't played in over 2 years.

Unbelievable.

Agree with your thoughts here Slippery, but also feel these guys will perform if Kerr, Lawrie and co also go to another level. They’ve been in these system long enough now and past their ‘Development’ stage and time for them also to deliver a bit more.
