Dugan back in for Raiders
Tuesday, June 23, 2009
The CFMEU Canberra Raiders have named rookie Josh Dugan at fullback this weekend, for the Green Machines all important clash with the Melbourne Storm at Canberra Stadium.
Dugan has been in fantastic form for the Raiders feeder club Souths Logan over the past fortnight and he replaces David Milne who has been ruled out for three weeks with a groin injury.
Joel Monaghan has been named in the centres and will return to the squad Thursday after State of Origin II in Sydney, which means Brett Kelly comes out of the Raiders backline and will line up for Souths Logan in the Queensland Cup.
Other changes include a reshuffle to the Raiders front row with David Shillington and Troy Thompson to start up front, with Dane Tilse moving to the bench and Scott Logan dropping out of the squad.
Logan will also play for Souths Logan this weekend and has been replaced on the bench by Nigel Plum, with forward Joe Picker returning to the top grade line-up as 18th man.
Raiders Coach David Furner said his side needed to shake things up after the loss to Manly on Sunday and will give other players the chance to make an impact against the Storm.
Were boosted by the return of Joel Monaghan from origin, while Josh Dugan gets another chance after some great games for Souths Logan, Furner said. Weve also gone for some mobility on the bench with Nigel Plum and Joe Picker.
