Interesting to see that Todd Payten has taken the different route to Webster, and dropped Nanai back to Qld Cup because he missed 4 tackles and only made 3 runs last weekend
I like it and players know where they stand, those underneath can see a pathway tp top team with hard work.
Problem is if you have to many sooks in your squad it can backfire.

Would we consider taking back Todd Payten? The Cowboys are getting impatient. I liked how honest he was. He also wasn't afraid to make players accountable.

I know the owner loves Webster. It may take a few more seasons to sober up and axe Webster.
Yea I liked Payten too. Have the Cows suggested they're losing patience though? If so, I wouldn't be upset seeing him back.

I think with his dropping of Nanai he was responding to a lack of effort. Our boys were ineffective but I dont recall (?) anyone slacking off at least, unless they were gassed because of Webster's bench management. So on that basis, Payten may have taken the same approach and given everyone another go to improve their execution.

Possibly just Read creating a shit story last year but apparently there's pressure on Payten.

Reports have surfaced head coach Todd Payten is under pressure to turn the Cowboys’ fortunes around, with The Australian’s Brent Read claiming the “walls are closing in” on NRL 360.

Payten signed on as North Queensland’s head coach ahead of the 2021 season, boasting a 49 per cent win record across his 84 games at the helm.

Ah ok.. if that story was pre-Magic Round last year, I think their results were pretty good from that point, so maybe the pressure’s eased. Till this season started at least...

Webster should field our youth.
The experienced players not performing could still mentor these young guys at training. This way they get developed and gain more experience. It's inevitable in this rebuild season. It beats watching the same crap weekly. I get that development must be executed properly to prevent burnout with the youngsters but I'm over the one out runs and kick to the corners strategy. It's boring and our shape on attack is underwhelming and hard on the eyes. The Sea Eagles must be licking their lips.

Payten wanted out to be fair
yeh, some extenuating circumstances involved there. found the old article. interesting read remembering what was happening at the time. The comment by Jazz is particularly interesting considering the situation we are in now regarding Websters methods.

Jazz: "
"He's straight up. If you stuff up, he's going to tell you - you'll hear about it.

"That's one thing I've enjoyed about Toddy, that he doesn't care who you are, if you don't perform, you're going to get dropped.

"It just goes to show that he does have high standards and I've really enjoyed playing under him."

He's stayed true to himself. Ask Nanai.
