Wes has provided good value for us this year tbh. bit of egg on my - and mostly everyone elses - faces on that one.

you fair dinkum wouldn't feed the bloke from what he provided last year... but he's come pretty decent this year.

Yep, I'm guilty as charged. Wes has certainly done a lot right this season, compared to last.

Gee's we've got a soft few weeks comming up, I just hope that Raiders turn up this weekend and give us a good workout.

I think history shows they'll give us more than a good workout,i'm leaning towards them giving us a touch up. Even with our gun sides we've really struggled down there(apart from the 70-34 win in 2006).

Yes. I don't want to see Vidot scoring with three blokes pushing him over the sideline and still getting the ball down.

Before anyone else gets their knickers in a knot - NBN did not say, infer or hint that Mullen was in huge doubt.

He was in fact quoted as saying he is a 60/40 chance. Hell he was planning to run at training today (let alone late in the week - what you usually hear from players struggling with an injury) and is planning to try and have a run on it again tomorrow.

The Herald also was quoted today as saying that Mullen (and De Gois) had minor injuries but Stone anticipates that both will play, even at this early stage.
LOL I saw the interview, and thought Mullen actually said "I guess I'm 50-40 at the moment"!! I wondered at the time where the other 10% had gone. :p

Knights ignoring dark past
BY BRETT KEEBLE
14 Jul, 2010 04:00 AM

THE Knights are studying recent history rather than the deep, dark past as they prepare for their annual pilgrimage to the Canberra Stadium graveyard.
Newcastle have beaten the Raiders on the road just twice in 22 years of trying but coach Rick Stone said he and his players were disregarding previous results in the build-up to the game in the national capital on Sunday.
A record 70-32 rout in 2006 is Newcastle's last win against the Raiders in Canberra, but that has been their only success in the past eight games there. In 17 games all-time, the Raiders have won 14 to Newcastle's two and there has been one draw - 21-all in 1999.
Though he respects the Raiders and their penchant for fast starts and piling on the points, Stone said the Knights had taken heart from Canberra's record of just two wins from seven home games this year and Newcastle's improved away form of four wins from eight matches.
After three straight wins and a bye, the Knights (18 points) are 11th.
The Raiders, who broke a four-game losing streak by beating Manly 24-22 at Brookvale last Saturday, are two points and two places behind Newcastle on the ladder.
"It's a good challenge for us actually, considering we've won our last couple of games and we're still looking for some overall improvement," Stone said.
"Canberra are a similar side to us, I suppose, as far as where they are on the table and how they play, to be honest. Their form at home this year probably hasn't been as good as they would have liked either."
Stone said playing the game in the afternoon was preferable to a potentially freezing cold mid-July night.
Newcastle's past four losses in Canberra have been by a combined score of 155-64, and three of those games were played under lights.
The weather forecast for Canberra on Sunday is cloudy skies, late showers, and a temperature ranging from a minimum of zero degrees to a maximum of 11.
"The conditions and the mental toughness that you need to go down there are important, and we'll touch on that during the week," Stone said.
"I think playing a day game is possibly a little bit better than playing a night game."
Stone retained the same 17-man squad that defeated Cronulla 21-10 at EnergyAustralia Stadium last Sunday. In the only change to that run-on side, Isaac De Gois was named to start at hooker and Matt Hilder was listed on the bench but Stone could again reverse those roles in Canberra. Halfback Jarrod Mullen (hip flexor) trained lightly yesterday but is considered a certain starter against the Raiders. Captain Kurt Gidley was excused from the session to freshen up after a torrid Origin campaign.

I was thinking about this yesterday...they have a terrible record (for them) at home this year, but obviously last week shows a bit of a return to form...not sure if that means they'll go back to losing again this week or will now start playing well at home like they traditionally do!

I post on forums that are full of troll threads and posts, and get a laugh out of a fair few of them. However that is easily one of the worst attempts I have seen in a while.

I think Patto and Taia need to be used differently. They both look like they trying to play centres... I think they should play a more simpler game and try just running lines and hitting holes at speed.

I think if they did that they'll slowly get their mojo back and should be able to be more creative. Do I make sense?

I remember Hilder used to get hammered every second time he took up the ball. However he seems to have passed on that mantle to McManus. The guy looks like all the bones in his body are broken by the time the final whistle goes!

Just thought I'd add that I think Kafusi went alright. Joel Edwards had a good game before as well. Both should keep their spots I think...

Weather forecast for Sunday, in Canberra serc, issssssssss

?????????????????

The weather itself will be almost identical to EAS last Sunday, except that there shouldn't be any brief rain. So just some thick cloud cover! But it will be much colder...as the sun won't get in to help heat things up much, temps probably somewhere between 10 and 13 degrees during the game, with a solid 10-20km/h W breeze just to add that little bit of bonus wind chill that we all love to get...how does that sound :)

Hilder has improved a lot with his attacking game recently. making a lot of metres and getting far more involved.

i've always liked the bloke as a very handy player... but i'm really starting to develop a genuine mancrush for him lately. at this stage i'd love to see him play out his career as a knight.

Totally agree with what your saying that apart from the ManCrush thing...

At the start of the year he was missing tackles, not doing much quality attack but now he is always around the ruck making some beautiful tackles and hits the ball up for a solid 10m nearly each time. I used to think he just didn't have the talent (bit like Tanner) but there is something else about him these past couple of weeks. Hope he keeps it up and he should be an excellent utility player for us who can cover hooker and backrow marvelously for us!:D

Mattys running game has been very good of late. I think he has learnt to pick gaps and run between players close into the ruck rather than trying to push through defenders head on.

Like you Perv, I love the bloke.

I'm chopping and changing over this game in my tipping. On the one hand, I think the Raiders are a better team on paper than us and it's Canberra, and they're in form. On the other hand, we're on a winning streak, the Raiders have been toilet at home all year long and we have a full complement of players available.

:x I hate tipping against us but I don't know about this week.
