14. Atko.

Infathomable.

Even Fitzs most ardent supporter would struggle to explain the reasoning for this continual selection.

He is leaving the club. So we are continuing to develop this guy who's future lies entirely elsewhere.
If he was a star, sure. If he had X factor, of course. If he came on and had the Ryan Paps impact and cut the defence to shreds.
Why not.
Squeeze every drop out of the lemon whilst we are paying him.

BUT....he offers nothing.
Zilch.
He comes on every week and makes farkall impact. Week after week after week.

There's some strange f**king things going on with selections.
Things are not kosher.

I agree. It sounds like he is playing him in fear of an injury to a back but I can think of other ways to get around that with our current cattle. Especially with Sifa on the bench.

Either he is holding his cards close to his chest or he is actually clueless.

I’d have Hohepa personally. What a pocket rocket.

Exactly. As I've said elsewhere, Sifa covers everything.
Some minor shuffling might be required, but no more than with ASADA.

I'm leaning toward the latter, in case it wasn't obvious from my posts of late.

What must it do for a player's confidence to know that week in, week out, regardless of how you perform in NSW Cup, you won't be picked in NRL?

Have a look at the ytd stats for each of them.
14 is traditionally reserved for an "impact" player.
Which of these players is having an impact on their respective matches?

ASADA

Hohepa

I know stats are not the be all and end all of analysis, but honestly, to be 7 rounds in and our first string "impact" player has has contributed a grand tally of 2 tackle breaks and nothing else, it just beggars belief that he is continually selected.

Every week in the NRL brings tests.
What's a main test this week?

To see if they can shut out the noise and play to their own game without letting the drama from the other club come into it.

Toby will be missed. He has been great off the bench with Sifa. The two of them come on and really lift the intensity and speed of our attack.

Only reason I can think of that Atko gets picked is if the 6 or 7 gets injured. He offers absolutely nothing otherwise, a pointless 15-20 minute stint is really all he does at this point

That could be better served by Tuks or Hohepa Puru to give some experience to blokes who will be here in the long term

So what if one of them does?
We roll with an extra forward and Brails takes on more responsibility.
Or we use Hohepa on the bench who is arguably a better stop-gap half than ASADA.

Whatever the thinking, to me it defies logic.
What are the odds that we do lose a half during the game?
And are those odds so great that we effectively play with 16 each week?

AFP.

We mentally / skillwise lose one of the halves each week anyway. DA not stepping in with a decent grubber or sidestep.
