There are times when Arsenal field teams without a single English Player.
Not buying into any argument here, but this is one thing that has always puzzled me. Not because Arsenal don't have a lot of top notch English talent, but because people seem to think there is something wrong with that.

Yes, it is the English Premier League, but there is no restrictions on what the nationalities of the players should be. And there is also a thing called internationals where players from one particular country play together.

The EPL is one of the biggest club leagues in the world. A lot of players want to play in it. This results in teams, in particular the top teams, having a number of players from around the world in their squads.

Arsenal have bought many a young player through the ranks who are now at EPL clubs or Championship sides. The reality of the matter is that the ones that have come through have had to deal with a lot of top players ahead of them, a lot of which are from other countries. If the overseas guys are better, than you play them. In recent times in particular this means the players coming through move onto other clubs to gain regular playing time and a number of them have been English.

In seasons to come, more and more of the top level clubs will have more and more overseas players. The EPL as stated above, is one of the big leagues and will continue to attract some of the worlds best players. This will extend to the youth development at clubs and 'kids' will be coming in from all over Europe.

And on a final note, the English national side is a shambles :D Can you blame us for not wanting any of the clowns ;-)

Since Rafa arrived to Anfield, more Spanish players now play for Liverpool, where under GH we had a fair few frenchys.

Thats the other thing to take into account with a bigger European League. It also attracts some of the best managers and a good percentage of them are from other countries. Different languages need to be taken into account which can result in a number of players from a particular country etc.

They also have contacts all over Europe (which you need to nowadays) so we're always going to see plenty of different nationalities in the EPL. Some teams will have more than others.

And yes, I dislike Everton a bit right now  If they won the other morning I would have turned $3 into $600 in a multi bet :x

I take your point. Although you make it sound as if Man U are full of local products and Chelsea bought everyone from other clubs. It wasn't free to bring Rooney, Saha, Van Nistelroy, Smith, Larson, Ferdinand, Carrick etc. All high profile players who established themselves elsewhere. Plus they seem desperate to land Hargreaves.
Firstly, we've earned that money. When Fergie joined us we were hardly at the position we are today. He completely rebuilt our youth set-up, got rid of the trouble-makers at the squad, and made a few intelligent buys to slowly mould the team into what he wanted. It took quite a few seasons, but eventually it paid dividends on the field. We then had a good administration that was able to take that on-the-field success and turn us into the most successful sporting club in the world off the field.

Secondly, we've never spent anywhere near as much as Chelsea has over a short period of time. Fergie generally makes one big purchase a season, combined with a couple of lesser signings to fill out what we need improving in, all at a rate that is economically viable. The season we bought Veron and Ruud was probably the only time we've bought two truly big-name players at the same time. Chelsea seem to buy players just for the hell of it, without giving the slightly lesser name players any chance to actually break into their 1st team.

ps. It was free to bring in Larsson. We're only loaning him, so it's only his wages that we're paying. ;-)

I don't have too much of a problem with that, if they know the side, if somebody goes for Man U I ask them to name a few players, sometimes you get a good answer sometimes you get a ....... If I get an answer to that question I don't care if they go for a bandwagon side.

PS that joke is funny.

I like to ask people why they started supporting them and see what answer you get. Nobody admits to supporting Liverpool in the 80s, Man U in the 90s and Chelsea now but there are a lot of people in that boat. Must feel hollow.

You guys are sad directing so much hatred at Italy. When Australia has been in as many world cups as Italy has, you will get it then. So we knocked you out. Bad luck.

We (Italy) were beaten in the final of Euro 2000 because the ref played 12 minutes of injury time and France equalised, then scored a golden goal in extra time.

We were knocked out of the 2002 world cup by South Korea because the ref and fifa decided one of the host nations should be in the semi-final and produced the most disgraceful refereeing performance of all time.

We were knocked out of Euro 2004 because Sweeden and Denmark played a manufactured draw.

We lost the 1994 world cup final on penalties after out playing Brazil in every facet of the game.

This only begins to scratch the surface of Italy's hard luck stories.

So world champions need luck. Loosers b*tch and moan afterwards. Champions get up off the canvas and try again. If Italy put all it's energy into hating the teams that have wronged us in some way we would never qualify for another big tournament again. Australia does not have the football ability to do that, so lose the chip is my advice.

Now.

Best team in the world bar none:

AS Roma

Closely followed by:

Everton

and: (don't laugh)

Waikato FC (last in the New Zealand Football Championship) - Supporting Waikato FC teaches you what loyalty really is...

Small soft spot for:
Torino
Livorno
Juventus (believe it or not - gained from watching them win the champions league and cheering them on as patriots do when there is no other Italian team to support)
Arsenal

Hate Hate Hate:
Nazio (Lazio)
AC Milan
Inter
Palermo
Manchester United
Chelsea
Auckland City
