Tell me all about Anthony Mitchell....

Ok, I have read a number of threads on this forum that talk about Anthony Mitchell and most posters seem to think he has been pretty hard done by with not having been given a start in the NRL team.

Now with our current dummy half clearly in the bottom third of the NRL, I find it difficult to believe that if Anthony Mitchell isnt getting a run that maybe he isnt too flash...but I have never seen him play so I really cant comment.

For those fans that get to the Wentworthville games and those that saw him play in the Toyota Cup before, can some people fill me in on your thoughts on:
* What you honestly think of him as a player?
* What you think his strengths and weaknesses are?
* Why do you think he hasnt cracked first grade yet?

Honestly if the comparison of Mitchell & Matt Keating is based on how I've seen them play at reserve grade level, Matt Keating is the better player

Anthony Mitchell is fast with his hands and feet. In better company, he COULD be a star.
I can see him moving to the Sharks and having the same impression as Nathan Gardiner has there.

I think his size is what has been holding him back, I really cant think of any other reason.

I've got a few highlight reels of him because he has so many accolades, and I can honestly say, inconsistency aside, he is a talent.

He is quick out of dummy half and usually picks the right time to run; he has crisp service from dummy half, and I have seen him throw some BEAUTIFUL bullet passes to men standing 15 or 20 metres behind him; he has a good kicking game, and he is smart.

He's a bit on the small side, though.

But IMO he'd be a perfec benchie - have MK, with his strong defence, soak up the first 20 minutes of the game, and then introduce Mitchell and watch the carnage unfold.

If that's how good he is, what is DA doing?

Because if he doesn't get game time and leaves Parra whenever his off contract and carves up at another club I'll be really pissed.

It's my opinion.

As I said, he can be inconsistent, but he is still young. And he is still fairly small. Maybe DA is worried about his defense?

That's just it - I'm always working, so I never have time to go to signing sessions or games any more. :(

So my fanatic dad gets tapes of games so I can watch them in my own time. But he has a tendency to edit it down to mainly the highlights . Which is why I struggle to see entire games at Wenty and NYC and make informed opinions!

Having said that, he's a big fan of Anthony Mitchell so I have lots of footage of him!

Still can't believe he hasn't debuted yet!!!!!

I hope he goes to a club that appreciates his talents.

would have thought that Anthony Mitchell would have debut this year to be honest too.

Would have had him in first grade ahead of Pele "hair bear"!

Noticed Pat O'Hanlon was on the extened list for that Warriors match, but i think, like Daniel Cross, he is being wasted at Wenty. get them back to the NYC to get some confidence back.

Pat was going great guns, and was looking the goods, but the last few matches I saw of Wenty, he was looking lost.

Mitchell however was still looking like he was trying.

I would love to see him tried out the same way that we used to use Kevin Kingston last season .... maybe that could have helped this year ... but no use thinking all that, it's just "fantasy footy"

you'd have to think, barring injuries, given we have to win every game from here on, that we won't be debuting anyone in the near future unless we lose a couple of games and are gone

Mitchell is a very strange one for me.

When releasing Kingston (A player who openly admits to only wanting the minimum) at the end of last year, I thought for sure Mitchell will need to step up and the club obviously have the opinion that he can, but for him not to be used this year has just bemused me entiley. The only thing I can put it down to is not wanting 2 small targets on the field at any one time with Morts of similar mould???

Not an attack on Mortimer at all BUT Mitchell has about 10 times the talent of Mortimer!

The times i have seen Mitchell play this year have left me confused at to why he hasn't atleast been given a shot considering there have been a few times that DA has actually had the chance and NEED to have a second specialist hooker on the bench!!!

It wasn't meant to be a comparison of the 2 just their size in the defensive line.
