You've got your face too close to the screen my friend....during Olam's last season at the storm, Justin Olam wasn't the same player he was previously at the storm...
He was in RESERVE GRADE which was where Benji signed him from. He came with a known calf injury that only allowed him a few trouble free games. These are facts. Make your point some other way....has Daine Lairie improved at all ..let alone out of sight since coming back to the panthers in any grade to make your point?....I'd say no
Olam was never the same player after Storm played Manly in '23. He got beat up in that game and went from being a smiling assassin to someone living in fear of being tackled. Calf injury? Yeah, maybe. Looked more like he lost all confidence.

Anyway, I wondered how Tigers would go in '24 after sacking their Board and CEO. Made no difference in the short term. I hope they get off the bottom of the ladder this year. 3 wooden spoons in a row is enough.

Few coaches have natural predispositions that lend themselves to leadership & man management (Think Bennet & Bellamy.) Most others, including Benji, do not.

Ivan Cleary, on the other hand, acquired his leadership skills and knowledge that were developed over time and involved multiple failures, years of experience and mentorship.

My point is Benji just doesn't have the experience to be an automatic success.
I agree with you in theory but the jury is still out for me.
If by chance Benji were to get coach of the year would that change your opinion Drac?

Olam was never the same player at the Tigers that he was at the Storm, neither was Bateman, have a look at the difference in Garner since he went to the Panthers. For their sake I hope Luai breaks that cycle.

Olams biggest issue was his knees, has had surgery on them both now so we'll see how he goes next year. Either way he's clearly past his best whichever club he is at.

Bateman just sucks, Super League fans were laughing at us signing him, turns out they were right

Its clear you didnt watch Garner in 2022, he was one of our best, every Tigers fan wished him well. He likely has improved since going to penrith, which player wouldnt?
They are trying to buy their way into a premiership window and maybe with a better coach they could do it, but I just can't see it happening.
They may well get off the bottom of the ladder next year but they really only have 2-3 years before this method will turn on them and they will have cap issues again with players wanting out.

While I am worried about our lack of forward signings and the depth issues we would face as long as Flanno continues moving in the right direction, we will slowly become a more attractive option without needing to offer massive overs in both $$ & years to get it over the line.

Flanno is trying to build us for sustained success, not brief window which will ultimately lead to nothing.

I just hope he is given the time & means he needs to do it.

Buy our way to a Premiership? Well what team isnt?

Your story makes no actual sense though. We've made 6 signings for next year and our oldest (Bird) is the same age as your youngest signing (edit not that youve signed Illias). Our squad of 30 has 15 guys aged 23 or under, 10 of them can still play Flegg next year. From what I can tell Saints have 2(this may wrong, just going on the club websites).

To say we're purely after immediate success whilst youre planning sustained success is one of the most uneducated statements Ive seen on here. Theres no reason you cant have both.

I did watch Garner play, my point was that he improved going to the Panthers unlike players that have come to the Tigers and gone backwards, hey dont worry mate we have the same, its a trait of all the struggling clubs.

Many teams try to build a team that can net sustained success, not a 2-3 year window which is what I believe the tigers are doing.

Clearly an uneducated guess, not like the tigers haven't been doing it for the last decade...
Buy players for well over their worth, that cannot be sustained, hence why I said it was a small window.
You can get away with that if it is 1 or 2 players, not a handful or more. The tigers have clearly done this in the past and are doing it now, they have signed better players this time round then previous but if they don't have immediate success, it will mean nothing.

Who have we bought for well over their worth and what do you base that on? Everyone laughed at us for paying $1.2m for Luai this time last year. Now teams would be falling over themselves to sign him for that

Would you say spending $850-$900k for 3 years on a 30 year old fullback with cronic knee problems who wasnt wanted by the team that came 15th is planning on sustained success for the future? How about a deal for a hooker who will be nearly 36 when his contract expires?

As I said before , both clubs are guilty of it, its what the struggling clubs have to do to get anywhere, and thats debateable if they do. Just like I'll admit we have bought hasbeens and rejects, you guys took on Sullivan at way overs and look at what is happening now with him. Many examples from both sides.

Yep Sullivan was a panic signing after we missed Moses and Brooks went to Manly. At the time it felt like a dud one. I actually feel for the guy, I dont think he ever really wanted to come and I dont think the club ever really saw him as a first choice half, despite paying him for it.

Yep you blame his manager for some of that, we did the same thing in signing Norman as a panic buy, a lot of money and a waste of space right there, we just got rid of our last waste of space.
