May is making a clear choice of who he thinks is the better coach for his career development out of Flano Ryles and Benji
A failure to sign May tells us alot about the current stance of our club when we can not compete against the cellar dwellers
No more excuses
Its time
At this point we have only signed players that have not been chased by any other club and even then we have overpaid and have given them their terms in the length of contracts
May wants $$$$$ Flannagan wont pay overs

Fonua Pole's numbers are not anywhere near as good as May's.

True, but Pole shining in a pack that's shirking.

May's stats are fantastic, but his fellow forwards are great defenders and top tier meter eaters. When the pack on a roll, it makes it easier for all of them.

I'd still prefer May but wouldn't be upset if we managed Pole, especially considering his age and NRL experience

I am racking my brain trying to think who else could be dislodged.. like the movement of RCG to the Titans should in theory create a problem for them... but they have done incredibly to keep everyone eager to be a Titan.. we had a good crack at dislodging someone from them, whether it was a prop or a half...

If May went to the Tigers.. I mean is there someone like Pole maybe who is in his last year..

But noone else obvious is left.. I mean we could try to secure 'someone' for 2026 and agitate early.. but the 'guns' are mostly spoken for once Thommo/May/Lodge are signed.

This is the list anyway of Middles in their last 12mths of contract:

Gut feeling is May will sign for Tigers on substantially more $$ than Flanno would pay. WT recruiters constantly knee-jerk into offering overs to solve their problems.

Another WT problem is David Klemmer, who I thought was on his last year but forgot the mutual option for a further season if he plays 14 games in 2025. They will wish to avoid that at all costs; hence May is additionally attractive to Tigers.

If they then can't retain Pole - They are back to square 1 with Klemmer.

In the coming weeks/months, there will be players who will either be tapped, squeezed out, or want out for various reasons.
Player managers would be aware of Flanagan's interest in a middle, so watch this space.
Would not surprise if Klemmer is one of a few names that will be rumoured to be looking for a new club in 2025.

Klemmer won't go, his salary sits at around $700,000 a season. Yet another West Tiger on 'overs'

He will dig his heals in and refuse, like Bateman and Sullivan. He is IMO well past it. I doubt there'd be much interest. Tigers main aim will be to ensure he doesn't hit 14 games.

There is still a bunch of damaging middles in that list waiting for a meaningful shot:
Hau Tapua
Pahulu
Greig
Vaalepu

Due to our situation, we probably have to go on the potential of them and offer one of the ones biding their time a crack to pry what’s hopefully a decent middle
Amongst many other things
