Ellis Ball played too. I agree he played the edges but imo both edges and lock are similar, just depends how they are used. In 05 double line attack wasn't as prevalent to what is now.

I think lock is basically another prop and sometimes they have more to their game and they can ball play. I don't see Ellis as a ball player. He could offload. I don't see Hass as a ball player but he can offload. So can May.

We can agree to disagree on this one though. It's cool.

I'm not disagreeing with you mate :) your right in your assessment.
We sometimes see things at games, not TV that stick in our heads. The more Ellis played the more he looked like Yeo, tall, tough, athletic. I remember seeing him at Leichhardt Oval where he was involved a several shifts but generally as you say he stiffen up the middle and cover edges both in attack and defense.
I feel he's more of a complete footballer than Haas or May. Big call I know but May and Haas for me are solid middles.

This is not a knock on what you stated. I basically agree with you. The thing is I think Doueihi is a pretty complete footballer. He has a lot to his game. I just don't think Doueihi has elite level skill in any one area and that is what is going to limit his worth in the game. I wonder if Galvin may end up in the same position.

Hass and May are great players with limited games. They are defined by what they do well.

I doubt we'll have the cap to waste big money on AD if he demands it. There could be a domino effect if Galvin goes early so he could get his upgrade money next year. I wouldn't be paying any more, as you said he's not elite.
I still think we need some experience in case Makasini needs more time.
Naden for me is all heart but I fear he's at the end of his career, maybe one more year. Preseason is hard on them.

Weird dude, but can play. I'd love to know how many bottles of Château Lafite Rothschild Premier Cru Classé Pauillac Robbo and Nick had knocked over when they decided May was surplus to requirements. Worked out outstandingly for you guys though.
Best thing about it is, he was an unexpected signing. Wasn’t even up for grabs until around November I think

about time we get some luck our way for once

I wouldn’t call him the buy of the season……. But only cause I don’t want to curse him. Absolutely killing it and is a machine. Can’t wait to see him and Haas pumping the QLD’ers. I can’t see NSW getting beat with those two boys banging it up

I'll see your Haas / May and raise you a Laurie Daley.

Ellis was phenomenal for 3 consecutive seasons b4 the dreaded foot injury cruelled his 4th season. Its early days for TM & it’s likely we will be comparing him to the peerless Ellis in a few yrs time.
I think it's too hard to compare players of yesterday to current ones.
Different defence, fitness, rules etc.
Yes Ellis was special. But so is May and he is doing it today.
What May is doing currently is unheard of and will probably change the way they look at FR players in the future.
