Test half Leuluai to rejoin NRL Warriors.

Wigan utility Thomas Leuluai is to the return to the NRL with the Warriors at the end of the 2012 British Super League season.

The experienced Kiwi will rejoin the club with whom he made his first-grade debut in 2003.

He spent two seasons at the Warriors before he went to England and he has been with Wigan since 2007.

A half or hooker, the 26-year-old Leuluai said while he loves being at Wigan and playing in the Super League he was always going to head back to New Zealand at some point.

"I also had a real desire to go back to where it all started," he said.

Leuluai, whose Kiwis debut also came in 2003, has played 30 Tests, one more than his father, James, who represented New Zealand from 1979 to 1986.

While the Warriors have negotiated a three-year deal with Leuluai, the Auckland-based club say they also want to retain five-eighth James Maloney, who is off contract at the end of next season and being chased by up to eight clubs.

New coach Brian McClennan said the Warriors knew Maloney was talking to other clubs, which was his right, "but he also knows we want him at Mt Smart Stadium".

I was hoping we would sign him since he played under our new coach & there as aconection there.
Still i think Nathan Peats is going to fullfill a bigger role for us as a utlity in the next few years.

Hopefully Leuluai to Warriors means there's a bigger chance of Maloney coming to us.

Agreed, well in a wishful thinking sense. If they want Leuluai its a sign that they will in fact offload Maloney as they know he doesn't want to be there past 2012. This is our chance Souths, take it with two hands!

I would have liked him 2012 , to ensure we have ONE experienced half next season. However no loss if we had to wait until 2013 , we need the coach to manage a solution for 2012 and if done our requirements may be totally different in 2013.

Signing a half is becoming like seeing an oasis.

A little definitely maybe.

Then definitely maybe not.

?? Read it again. He's playing with Wigan in 2012, Warriors in 2013. He won't be free until at least 2014.

Serious? You won't get him until 2014 at the very earliest.
Lol @ apparently definitely

And the post was clearly stating that he was posting this as they were the ones meant to sign him, but the Warriors got him instead. That was the talking point of the thread.

You missed my point. Souths should not be interested in him beyond 2012. We need a halfback solution for 2012 ! Up to the coach to get a solution in 2012 from current squad or get someone now.

The talks with Maloney are a decoy. The real target for 2013 is Cronk.
I don't think you can expect the same level from Cronk as he currently has at Melbourne. If he comes over it will probably be for the money, not the love of the club.

I tend to agree. Why sign Cronk for $$$$$$$ when we could groom our own?

Have to agree with Ozzy on this one about Cronk. Cronk is a huge talent and Im not saying that he wouldn't be good at Souths but he has had a core group of quality and experienced players around him for a number of years which has helped his cause.

As much as Id love to see him at Souths, I don't think he will shine as much as he has in Melbourne with the inexperience we have in a few key positions
