Thaidays Tackle On Newton???

Can someone please explain to me how we didn't even get a penalty for it? The Tackle was almost a carbon copy of the Buderus one, execpting Newton landed more on hi shoulders than the back of his neck. However he was lifted above the horizontal, and driven down, still a dangerous tackle. The only person to comment on it was Gould. I can't beleive we haven't heard more about it. I'll be pissed if he is cited on Monday.

He damn well better be cited on Monday. Same lifting motion - nearly identical to Danny's tackle. We'll see whether being suspended is either the method of the tackle (i.e. - the lifting motion) or the luck of the draw as to where the tackled player lands...

Keep dreaming boys

Therefore you must think that Buderus should not be suspended. It was a dangerous tackle where Newtons body was vertical let alone above the horizontal. The only difference was that Newton landed more on his back.

It will be interesting to see how consistent the judiciary is.

It is kind of like a swinging arm.
If you swing and connect with the chest, nothing happens.
If you lift and land on the flat of your back...nothing will happen.

Buderus hammered Robertson who was driven into the ground like a fence post.

I dunno, he didnt really drive his head into the ground the same way Buderus did. I didnt think it was as bad.

I didn't say it was as bad, What I am saying is it doesn't matter what you land on, if you're lifted above the horizontal (which he was) then it's a dangerous tackle. The method of the tackle was almost identical. It has nothing to do with red and blue glasses Vippo, it has to do with being consistant, if the judiciary are consistant Thaiday will be charged with a dangerous tackle.

But he didnt drive like Buderus, he got him up there and sort of let go. He tried to pull out. Grade one at the very worst.

When did Danny drive in the tackle? :?

I saw no driving motion at all, it was all momentum.

Exactly, and that's the pont, Thaiday lifted and cartwheeled Newton just as Buderus did to Robertson, they landed differently yes, but other than that they were almost the same, and as for driving, Thaiday did not let him go. Newton hit the ground every bit as hard as Robertson did.

I remember thinking at the time that Buderus' tackle and suspension would set a pretty unrealistic precedent based mostly of getting square. For what it's worth, the tackle wasn't as bad as Buderus', but really it shouldn't be compared if we were outraged at the suspension Buderus eventually got. That isn't good for league.

He will probably get a suspension in any case.

As they were saying yesterday on the 2SM radio show, the NRL is trying to stamp out spear tackles/dangerous throws. What sort of message will it send to the players if they get Danny for 5/6 weeks than a week later, let off Thiaday for a similar tackle? It would be a complete travesty and show the NRL weren't serious at all!

Saab, he is facing a suspension.

I am very confident he wont be facing any suspension for that tackle.
It is kind of like Cameron Ciraldo in round 26 for the Sharks who put Withers in a dangerous position, but, he let him down very gently. Ciraldo was not charged.
Now with Thaiday, he certainly did lift Newton, but, he landed on the flat of his back.
If Ciraldo gets nothing for that tackle, then Thaiday gets nothing for his tackle.
Precedent has been set.

Precedent was also set for tackles like Buderus with previous ones like that this year getting Grade 1.
