Was great to see Lee Hopkins staying out in front of the western stand clapping the crowd and them recipricating their appreciation to him after (we had politely escorted Mr Clarke from the Ground!!) the game on saturday night.

In a less than spectacular time in the Eels history, Lee has never stepped onto a football field in an Eels jumper and given less than his best. He has worn his heart on his sleeve, and whilst not the most gifted player, i think he has earnt and maintained the respect of all eels fans at a time when we have questioned many of our more seasoned favourites.

Respect Lee, and all the best in France (or where ever you are headed) and the future....

well.....

if he does indeed leave after this year

i for one will be sad to see such a whole hearted, passionate and hardworking player, who did everything he could, when he could for this club leave

i disagree with the sentiment about him perhaps not being the most gifted, he has some gifts in that respect, but just not as many as Andrew Johns or some of the other elite players

but i do agree with the sentiments that suggest he never played with less intensity or herat than some of his more gifted rivals or teammates

a true workhorse, clubman, heart on his sleeve eel and even game breaker on his day, well done Lee and i thank you for you efforts at Parra and wish you well with everything in the future and truely believe that circumstances rather than lack of form or ability have prevented you from gaining a further contract at Parramatta

you will be missed in 05 if you are not in an eels jumper Lee, well done

Congratulations on your form with us.

I hope you get a deal somewhere which pleases you - you deseve it. If it were up to me, I'd have to here.

Good luck, Champion.

He was exactly the same when he played for Penrith too, and I'm
sure he will be the same wherever he goes.........it's just the kinda
guy that he is.

I was very sorry to see him leave Penrith too. Good luck Hoppy.

I remember the emotion showed after the Melbourne match at home last year, and knew from that point this bloke is all heart.

MP, I heard somewhere there was a chance he may go back to the Panthers have you heard that???

Dragons have been mentioned however they just signed Torrens from Manly (salary cap trouble at Manly?? - who the f**k are they paying so much for outside of Kite and Kennedy) - France could be a good option as the side he has been mentioned joining is being admitted to the ESL in 2006.

No, I haven't heard anything about that. I didn't even know that there was a chance
that the Eels didn't want to re-sign him until I saw this thread.

I, for one, wouldn't mind having him back though. He was like other former
players for Penrith such as Barry Walker, Carl Macnamara, Danny Farrar etc.

All great workhorse with big hearts that never gave up, but they didn't necessarily
have gigantic natural talent or big names, and most fans of other clubs had
probably never even heard of them, but to us they were top class.

Thanks Lee.
If every one put in week in/week out like Lee Hopkins, we'd probably be discussing our chances in the finals instead of the off season changes required to make us a force again.
Good luck Lee wherever you end up.

A player with alot of heart, unfortunately we have better players next year and a spot rightfully so cann't be found, good luck with his future endeavours though.
