The Bird penalty was a disgraceful decision.

The sinbinning of Jennings was a disgraceful decision.

The Inglis try was a disgraceful decision.

We can't say whether or not that try or Bird's penalty cost NSW the game; there are too many variables following what if time travel.

What it did do is take away the focus from a great and hard game by both sides and push it to the ineptness of the referees.

Both sides played well. A good origin clash. NSW go forward was fantastic, but there final options were lacking. Queensland showed again what a well oiled machine they are and the advantages of a spine that plays together regularly.

The biggest shame is we noticed the refs at all.

That's a great tackle, it's in no way dangerous. The whole point of the tip tackle rule is to prevent dangerous tackles.

Is that tackle dangerous?
That wasn't the question. The question was whether they took Cronk over the horizontal. I reckon the answer is pretty obvious!

As for danger, I don't know... You tell me if it's more or less dangerous than the tackle that cost David Taylor 5 weeks on the sidelines:

Whether it was more dangerous or not, no one can say definitively. For mine, Taylor's looked worse than Bird's in the actual footage, not stills. But you're right, freeze frame on the video, whip out the protractor, and Cronk was taken past horizontal. But that isn't how Origin has been reffed in the past, which was the point Gallen was making directly after. If Origin was played strictly by the letter of the law it would just be an average game that featured a bunch of pretty alright footballers. Case in point would be the Tallis tackle on Hodgson. Fantastic Origin moment, but if it happened during a club game it would be a blatant penalty.

I'm not going to argue your point, as I agree with it.
My point was purely about Cronk going clearly over the horizontal.

Fact is that according to the letter of the law, it was a penalty, not a disgraceful decision as some claim.

Another fact is that while Qld was good enough to convert 1 of their 3 penalties into a try.
Curiously, NSW got one more penalty, and all they could achieve was a missed conversion from 40 mtrs, and give us the ball back in another... :sarcasm:
