That play and the conspiracy theory

PHOENIX -- Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has refuted multiple reports that he changed the ill-fated, goal-line interception play to a pass after Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell called a running play.

"There was not a thought about running it, and then I changed the play," Carroll said Monday. "That did not happen."

A conspiracy theory was out late Sunday night after the 28-24 loss to the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl that Carroll changed the play to a pass so Russell Wilson would win the MVP award and not Marshawn Lynch.

Carroll was not asked that directly, but he said the play call was not changed. The second-and-goal play at the New England 1-yard line with 26 seconds to play was a slant route intended for Ricardo Lockette that cornerback Malcolm Butler intercepted.

Carroll said there was no conflict with Bevell over the call.

I saw a few fans on Facebook claiming the Seattle OC was working for NE hence why he made the call. Ah, conspiracy theories.

I dont think there is a conspiracy theory, i just think they screwed up.

Apparently they were already looking ahead to the next two plays, they basically decided to pass the ball thinking it would be an incompletion, in which case, why not just spike the ball? Why not throw a back shoulder or fade to the corner, less bodies, clearer throwing lane, clearer vision. Why not roll out and let Russell have the option to keep it if we can get in, or be able to throw it away?

It was just Seattle over thinking it, and making a really dumb play call. That's all.

Lol. Whilst I think the play was definitely dumb. Lynch ran the ball the play before and got tackled on the 1. If they wanted Wilson to be MVP as the conspiracy says, wouldn't they have thrown on 1st down?

Like most conspiracy's, this one is pretty stupid.
