That try and the kick off that caused it

OK.

I am truly confused and Pearced off.

Who else heard various commentators etc over the weekend saying that the kick off was fine because it crossed the 10m plane? That is, if you drew a vertical line in the freaking air from the 40m line then as long as the ball crosses said imaginary line and then blows back to bounce before the 40m line then the ball has gone 10m??????

What's more if one of our players caught that ball then he probably would have been standing between the half way line and the 40m line and would he have been offside?

Since when have "planes" entered our rules? We are not the bloody NFL, a scorer does not have to cross the plane to score he has to put the bloody ball down. A kick can't go through the goalpost plane then blow back and be called a goal.

If these mysterious planes are in vogue then if a flying wingers old fella flops out and dangles over the touch line is he out? Maybe that is why Hot Dog is going like a busted.

Our lads put in a great effort and then were screwed royally. I think we can make it (there is some positive thoughts Newman) as what side when lacking a starting front rower, 2/3 of the starting back row, a starting centre and a 5/8 would be expected to win.

It would be comical if it didnt screw us so bad reefy.

The whole episode was a debacle.

That combined with the tigers golden point loss, 4 points we have been screwed out of.

But that's the rule. Always has been. If the kick off travels 10 metres forward in the air and crosses that imaginary plane it has always been a legal kickoff. Since 1908. Just because it doesn't happen often doesn't mean it was a wrng decision. It wasn't.

And the limmo was in front of the kicker

he's that fast that it only SEEMED like he was in front of the kicker!

PS why does this "plane" rule exist for only the kickoff and going the 10m? why not any other time the ball is "out" but in mid-air therefore play on?

It doesn't. It also applies on shots for goal.

from
SECTION 6
SCORING – TRIES AND GOALS

Goal – how scored

6. A goal is scored if the whole of the ball at any time
during its flight passes on the full over the
opponents’ cross bar towards the dead ball line after
being kicked by a player (and not touching or being
touched in flight by any other player) in any of these
circumstances:–

(a) by a place kick after a try has been scored and
counts two points

(b) by a place kick or a drop kick when a penalty kick
has been awarded and counts two points.

NOTES
No try in scrum A try cannot be scored by grounding the ball when it is in the
scrum.
Boring through A player may pick up the ball at the base of the scrum and bore
forwards through his own forwards to ground the ball for a try.
Ball blown back 6. If, after passing completely over the cross-bar the ball is
blown back, a goal is still allowed

still strange that it's only for a couple of areas where there is a specific rule, but the exact opposite for others

Yes, but it is what it is and has been for a long time and even though there are plenty of gripes that can legitmately be aired over the game, that's not one because it is 100% correct.

Well, it is correct as far as classification of the rule.
However, did the ball pass the vertical plane? Or did it just touch the vertical plane. What is the rule on that? What do the officials use as markers for a ball 20 metres in the air?

that's the reason right there, we are no heavy weights when it comes to pulling a crowd or a tv audience.

stacking the 8 to ensure a better tv deal, too many Sydney teams atm, nrl would be happy to see us fall out with teams like titans, newie & warriors welcomed inclusions, looks better because you're penetrating more markets which gives you leverage at the negotiating table

Can't see why they bother. Very few sports penetrate other markets. Look at Soccer here and in the US. Basketball is nothing in England. The Swans and Storm are nobodies in their own city's. Waste of time. Can barely recall a successful launch of a sport in another market anywhere. Victorians can hardly name a Storm player and the same for Swans and GWS players in NSW. Ironically Israel Falou is one to remember. Getting a second team in NZ a bit of a chance..

Cricket,Union and Baseball all in niche markets. For God sake , swimming not even big in the US. Phelps more well known here.
