That try and the kick off that caused it

I just watched it & replayed it several times. I don't think Ciraldo touched it and it was so close to going across the touch line on the 10m line I really wouldn't say definitively that it didn't travel the 10.

Can't see why they bother. Very few sports penetrate other markets. Look at Soccer here and in the US. Basketball is nothing in England. The Swans and Storm are nobodies in their own city's. Waste of time. Can barely recall a successful launch of a sport in another market anywhere. Victorians can hardly name a Storm player and the same for Swans and GWS players in NSW. Ironically Israel Falou is one to remember. Getting a second team in NZ a bit of a chance..

Cricket,Union and Baseball all in niche markets. For God sake , swimming not even big in the US. Phelps more well known here.

market as in national viewing market, if you have a broader spectrum of clubs represented (geographically speaking) you're likely to capture a larger viewing audience. With the numbers comes the dollars. Bit like how the league is looking to sell the viewing rights to origin separate from Telstra premiership, big viewing audience nationally which warrants the big bucks.

I wouldnt put it past the nrl to assist certain results that would help them attain a more attractive representation of clubs for the finals series, big business will do what's best for big business. business ethics is a bit like santa clause, great fantasy but doesn't exist and then you realise he's f**king your mum!

I understand what they are trying to do. No matter what they do , I have never attended an AFL game or A League and doubt I will. Most AFL fans don't even watch GWS. if they played in my backyard I would go out.

TV Companies prepared to invest a bit to see if they can get a higher return. To date any people I know who follow footy cannot stand AFL,Union or Soccer. Those sports are trying to penetrate our market too. The only success story has been UFC and surprise, surprise I can't stand that.

I actually don't mind the other codes so I should be one of the target audience.

I took the family to watch Australia play baseball at the Olympics. Also had gold medal tickets. Couldn't get anyone in the family to go. Had to virtually give them away. I went and left early to watch 10000m heats! Try watching Gridiron live. I have. Doesn't look bad in a highlights package.

Followers of other codes don't like footy. Their loss. Who cares ? TV companies.

Here is that chap that is supposed to look after referee's decisions response. Harridan or something. No mention of how they judge the plane of the 10 metre line nor the placement of the touchy nor for that matter of what happens to the people who he now admitted made two errors that would have won us the game. At least the Limmo offside would have, the other offside would have given Chad a chance to kick for goal from 35 out:

"Sharks v Panthers

Did the ball travel 10 metres in the final kick-off before full time – explain the rule?

The referee made the right decision, the ball travelled 10 metres and crossed over the 40 metre line and then went into touch. To make things clear, all the ball needs to do is cross the plane of the 10 metres. Once it has done that, the ball is deemed to be in-play no matter where it finishes up.

For example, the ball could travel 10 metres and then be blown back 15 metres and it would still be deemed to be play-on.

In this instance the ball has crossed the plane, so it was rightly deemed play-on. It has then gone out in touch marginally over the 40 metre line, which means the referee rightly awarded the scrum feed to Penrith. It was a tight call, but they got it right.

Was there a Panthers player offside at the kick-off?

I think the Panthers' player is just in front of the kicker and could have been penalised for being offside. Both feet need to be behind the line at the kick-off and I think he is slightly in front.

Was Lachlan Coote offside from the charge down?

Lachlan Coote is offside. After close analysis today of this incident using slow motion replay, player Coote is in an offside position when he gains position of the ball following the charge down. It was a very difficult call for officials in this instance due to the speed at which the play eventuated and the decision which needed to be made in a split second. Unfortunately on this occasion the decision was incorrect.

The video referee couldn't rule on it because it was not the play leading directly to the scoring of points."

It all comes down to the refs not penalising in extra time.
Had they known that the kickoff was going to cause so much controversy, they'd have penalised the early chaser.
If they had known that Stapo was going to catch the runaway panther off the chargedown, they woud've penalised him then & there.

They just will not make a decision in golden point. As Flanno said, there are no rules in golden point.

By the sounds of Harrigans explanations, we would have actually been better off letting the Panthers player score a try off the chargedown

Coote was offside no doubt about it should of been a penalty to Cronulla.

Not to worry it happens to every team Parra beat us a few weeks ago when they scored a late try from a Nathan Hindmarsh gridiron pass then the game went to GP and they kicked the field goal.

I've been thinking about the "Crossing the plane" malarky post an email response from the NRL I just got that explained bugger all. How in f**ks name can they judge something that is happening in the air, with no reference points (as, if they are watching the ball they cannot also have been looking at the line, unless we have iguanas in pink shirts) a minimum of 20 meters from them with supposed millimetre accuracy yet cannot judge someone being offside at the same kick off with a bloody line painted on the ground to help them. Beggars belief.

how does tis rule affect kicks for touch off a penalty. It is the only other area of the game reluying ona vertical plane, not where the ball lands. Im thinking if touched outside that plane, it must already be out of play?

Nah, sometimes u see players jump up & out to touch it to force a scrum.

Don't really know why they bother, with the scrums these days.

This is all such bullshit.
1) If the ball is judged to have 'crossed the plane' by the referee or linesman.....how's does the receiving team know that they can play at the ball........ unless the official screams out while the ball is still in flight that they can? If we had caught that ball on the full....the player would have been inside the ten. We would have been penalised for sure.
2) If there is any doubt that the ball has travelled 10.....in other words a 50/50 call.... which this clearly was.....how can the decision possibly go against the team receiving the kick? The onus has to be on the kicker to have definately kicked it far enough.
3) The rule should be changed to mirror yawnion. If the ball does not travel the 10 on the full....penalty to the receivers. End of story.

The plane is on the 40m line, just like there is one on the 20m line for 40-20's, and one on the goal line to judge whether the ball has gone dead in-goal.

Maybe they should have corner posts on all of them to assist in situations like this. It might only happen once in 1000 games, but at least in this situation is would have assisted.

Also, the planes only come into if the ball bounces out of play, so its not like AFL.

I'm in the presence of greatness.

i had no idea a ball crossing a plane was such common friggin knowledge.

Every fuggin dumbass supporter from every other club knows all about them.

Saw Evil Knievel try to cross a plane once and came unstuck.

Bit like panthers, Bill- you vagina.
