"That was last week, this is this week" - Shayne Hayne

It's taken a while to settle down from the ever so frustrating end to our "was looking good" season.

After everything that happened (well documented on here), this comment really gets my goat and has proven to me that the NRL needs to take a long hard look at it's self if it is to compete in the next decade with the likes of other Footballing codes.

I/we have long suspected that the referees are told to change their methods on a week by week basis but nothing formal has ever been mentioned.

This commment just proves that the NRL's rules are such a mess that they don't know what to do anymore and have run out of ideas.

This line is sticking in my head and it's hard to ignore, so i'm seriously thinking that a switch to the Sydney Swans would be a wise move as I already have the teams colours (just get the missus to sew swans logos of the Dragons) as i seem to be constantly shaking my head over this.

Can anyone provide any insight as to what type of competition we are going to be watching next year ?

Will the video referee be used more ? Will it get canned all together ?

Frankly, NRL is freak'n sh*t at the moment. Not enjoying it.

I share your pain but this has been happening for a while. It gets to a stage that you want to give up on the game but then the Dragons would all of a sudden suck you back in and give you hope only to feel like crap again due to some referee blunder.

That comment was really poor and the decision to appoint him the following week was even poorer. If he get the Manly game this weekend the Warriors are gone for 2008.

sh*t AFL you say? Nothing could EVER be THAT bad.

Other than that I agree with you, I've been increasingly agitated by these types of incident for a few season now. For me it has come to a bit of a head this season.

At the end of the day I guess all we are asking for is some consistency in the application of the rules.

They are nothing if not consistant.

Consistantly farked!!

That 1st game against Parra sticks in my mind.

The game against Storm in Melbourne, well, wow, the less spoken about that the better.

There's more I know, but, looking forward....

One thing about the AFL is you have Geelong v Hawthorn playing the the GF. 2 traditional clubs. When did that last happen in the NRL?????

They are to busy trying to pump up Melbourne and Brisbane so they don't really give a toss about the traditional clubs hence why they get the raw deal.

Do you guys honestly believe the Storm can afford to keep Inglis and the rest of their stars and stay under the cap? Something reaks big time and losing Gaz the way we did really does not sit well. If the NRL came through with the cash he would be in the red V next season but they didn't. Gaz is pi##ed with them and not the Dragons by the sounds of things it is obvious they did not come to the party in the end.

The NRL are killing this game. Every week something new comes out which make you sick. Cam Smith's tackle was attrocious yet he gets 1 week and only the loadings give him 2. Ryles got 2 weeks for obstruction from memory. McKinnon missed the whole finals (3 weeks) for the warriors for apparently spiitting in the direction of a touch judge. Cam Smith nearly rips Thaiday's head off and gets 1 week with loading to put him to 2. In case you are wondering the loading comes from a prior offence for grappleing a player so repeat offenders only get 1 week apparently. The NRL wreaks of double standards and all in the Stoms favour. If the Dragons had differnt rules applied to the rest of the NRL teams they would be successful to.

Actually the Dragons do have different rules:-

1) Their players can be taken out if they don't have the ball. Especially on week 1 of the fianls. The following week it's not allowed. Ask Hayne to clarify.
2) 2 week suspension for obstruction
3) NRL can offer 3rd party sponsorships to their Marquee players but don't have to pay them, just tell them that they will do it.
4) If a guy stomps on you in a scrum and you kick him back you get sent off.
5) If a guy starts laying in to you and you are held back buy their players, cop the punches in the face and don't whatever you do look down or it will be deemed a headbut. Just sit there and take it. What was Nightingale thinking. I am suprised he was not suspended for that.
6) If your name is Jason Ryles you cop an automatic 3 penalties a game, just cause your name is Jason Ryles. The refs will find an infringement don't you worry. All those high tackles he cops are deemed dangeroues as well as his granny's apple is too pointy and may hurt a players forearm.........

You Dragons fans do realise that if you didnt whinge so much (you had the right to it should have been a penalty) after the Roosters match it would not have been a penalty in the Manly game (again, penalty).

Wow really? We must learn how to channel our collective power so that we can use it for the greater good in the future. :)

Don't worry, I've had my rant and rest from League for a few weeks, ready to get back into it.

The arrival of Bennett has brought me back to my senses and I will never use that dirty word ever again (ay ef elle).

Just hoping for some consistancy next year when it counts atleast.

(BTW - the 5 rules that were said in this post had me in stiches)
