Just saw the Living End at the Zoo in Brisbane, they played the roll on and album backing up tomorrow night as well. Work may suffer just a touch :)

Former eel player

. FORMER Australian Schoolboys captain Tim Auremi provided a reality check to the 90 players attending the NRL rookie camp at Wollongong University on the weekend as he choked back tears while telling them about the spinal injury that ended his career before it began.
On the eve of their first full season in the under-20s for Canberra, Canterbury, Cronulla, Penrith, St George Illawarra and Wests Tigers, the players were continually reminded only 12 per cent of them would graduate to the NRL.
Most obviously believed they wouldn't be among the 88 per cent missing out and they were also told that those who did make it would need to be determined, committed, strong-willed and possess the right attitude and a good work ethic, as well as talent and playing ability. They would also have to be lucky.
Auremi, who played in the under-20s for Parramatta in 2009, possessed all of those qualities and had skippered the Australian Schoolboys and NSW under-18s teams the previous season but a spinal injury denied him the chance to fulfil his potential.
With tears in his eyes and a quivering voice, Auremi read from notes on a phone as he told the NRL hopefuls how he had struggled to cope until the Men of League Foundation helped organise a traineeship for him as a development officer at the NSWRL Western Sydney Academy.

Possibly should have put the quote first Gronk so your massive LOL didn't immediately follow the spinal injury story.

I doubt anyone would be worried about an accidental juxtaposition Bigfella.

Just heard that Independent Schools in Sydney and most of the CAS schools (Trinity, Knox, Cranbrook, Waverley, Barker etc) are introducing AFL next year to years 5,6,7 & 8. You can't tell me that this is not a product of the mexicans lobbying hard and throwing cash in the right direction.

I will be encouraging my boys to play afl. There is no future in league for white guys.

Independent/private schools never take league seriously. They all focus on union. Will be interesting to see if these schools allow AFL into their senior years as it would likely have an effect on the amount and strength of their union teams which they take very seriously.

Systemic catholic schools and the state sport schools are where league has a stronghold, to the point where union and AFL are barely played apart from an occasional gala day. In saying that the NRL or ARLC need to start promoting league in schools because numbers seem to be dropping (particularly where i teach)

As if League would ever to be allowed to play in those schools

It would never happen no matter cash the NRL threw at them.

I'm sure that they used to say that about AFL too - yet they have managed to infiltrate a traditional rugby stronghold (actually most kids play soccer in CAS schools, if you want to be accurate).

Facts are that they are now in. Winners can laugh and the losers can come up with excuses.

Could you imagine the outcry of the leather patch pims quaffing brigade if they started playing filthy championball in their most prestigious schools???

It may happen If the two codes became one or if hell freezes over first. The only kids Yawnion would lose to the AFL would be ones from the chess club or debating teams. Hardly losses.
