EA you like Tool? sorry but a little surprised? didn't think you liked metal, more 70's like UFO.

ELO?

lol

Only really like that one Tool album. VAST and Tea Party are reasonably new too.

Most of the 70's stuff I have is on compilations these days. Have a stack of Status Quo albums, a few Slade, T Rex etc though.

I find it an absurd idea to try and list the 5 best albums of all time....

There are simply too many great albums spanning hundreds of genres.

I gave it a crack after readng this thread and have been in deep argument with myself for the past hour.

It is impossible.

So instead I will just list the top played albums from my ipod.

1. Muse - Showbiz
2. Metallica - Master of Puppets
3. Muse (again) - Hullabaloo (disc 1) (FYI- track 10 - Hyper Chondriac Music is the mot played song on my pod)
4. Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
5. The Offspring - Smash

Too true. In the interest of provoking thought however, i'll give it a go based on what i feel like right now.

Avalanches - Since I left You
Gotye - Like Drawing Blood
Michael Franti and Spearhead - Yell Fire
Pixies - Doolittle
Radiohead - The Bends

Ah, Turn Loose The Swans. Brilliant album.

I love doom death and MDB are probably the best at it.

Sorry the UFO is a joke between a few friends of mine, put simply... a mate threw this guys record onto the street as he didn't like it ( doesn't like anything over 5 years old) hence why we now refer to it as UFO. Record was fine, but my mate didn't play it around him anymore..

Your collection sounds pretty much like my old mans ( apart from tool) except he's going through a Doobie Bros stage.

That did peak my curiosity too although you could argue that they've got metal elements.

I wouldn't say they are c**k rock nor alternative like Grinspoon, and as you say they certainly do have metal characteristics.

Maynard writes the stupidiest lyrics ever.

His new project is testament to that.

Can't say that there are too many albums that I've enjoyed every track on - most artists have the problem of trying to make a contract deadline and slip through something less than palatable.

Some of my favourites (yes, I'm showing my age):

Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Station to Station - David Bowie
Tattoo You - Rolling Stones
Dire Straits - Dire Straits
The River - Bruce Springsteen

If I had to sell or give up my entire collection, they would do me.

Of the stuff released in the last 5 years or so:

Glitter in the Gutter - Jesse Malin
Revival - John Fogerty
Rush of Blood to the Head - Coldplay
Magic - Bruce Springsteen (I'm glad to see he gave that folksy crap of the Seeger Sessions the flick)

Jesse Malin is great

No, Daniel Johns takes that honour

hard to argue with that.

As much as his music is pretty spectacular at times, his lyrics are kindergarten stuff.

maynards are year 7 dick joke stuff.

I don't know about that.

undertow was pretty intense stuff, aenema was based on the life of Bill Hicks (great, great comedian).

I guess Stinkfist I'll agree with you on. All about having a pull.

I never read it that way.
I thought it was about naughty bum bum penetration.

Regardless ...the lyrics were such a waste on such an awesome piece of music.

Chris Cornell's another bloke who has written or sung some pretty dissapointing lyrics over great music.
