If its about playing ability, how does that work?

If you want to go down the Provan=Immortal road on that basis, I'd suggest you call the 11 straight premiers the immortal team. We will always get better than the immortals, but we will never top that.

The other issue is the quality of the appointing panel has dropped off alarmingly.

You could hardly have found 3 better judges than Tom Goodman, Frank Hyde and Harry Bath at that time.
