The Ashes

Good to see Eng-erl-land making it interesting...

Just a heads for anyone who's finding channel Nine's Cricket commentry as annoying as that of their League, try muting it and listening to ABC 702.

Kerry O'Keefe has been killing it. First Test when Harmison was strugling to keep the ball on the pitch:

"Flintoff's got a real problem here... what he needs to do is move the keeper to leg gully and give the gloves to second slip"

Commentating with Englishman Phil Agnew:

O'Keefe: "Have you seen that movie, March of the Penguins?"
Agnew: "Yes, I have."
O'Keefe: "It's not a well know fact but Steve Bucknor actually did the narration for that"
Agnew: "Is that right?"

Channel 9's cricket commentators are as bad their league commentators. How Tony Grieg hasn't been dropped is one of life's mysteries.

Defintely better off listening to the ABC.

Maybe... still a way to go in Adelaide. Might end up a draw.

There's been more than one dark age of Aussie cricket, the arrogance of the old dart was the universal constant during such times. The Windies were always cool when they were on top and carried themselves with some dignity, but not the poms.

Australia will win back the Ashes.

lol. They were having their cricketer chat thing between sessions - yesterday they had Gooch which was quite good.

But today it was Grieg's turn with his unique brand of racist faux pas mingled with humourous anecdotes about his incredibly dull life style.

One story was about the end of aparthied, and how one of his white mates had the misfortune of having to compete for his spot against black cricketers.

The second was about his SAF mate going to the Gold Coast casino (on Packer's invite), and when his mate's wife was looking for him, he acted like she didnt exist. Grieg thought that was particularly funny. At this point it became too much to bear and I hit the mute button.

Oh yeah... well done Ricky... another great ton. :D

Kerry O'Keeffe is the best commentator in any sport. When told the English were unfortunate to meet the Aussies in such an ominous mood in the first test: "I tried to pick up a supermodel in a bar once, but was denied. I wasn't unfortunate, I just wasn't good enough."

It was his 57th B'Day during the Brisbane test.

Fellow commentator: "Congratulations, that means you have more years then you do test wickets."

O'Keefe: "But I had that at 25."

Followed offcourse by that laugh.

Three tests clear and it's not New Year...

Looking forward to the spectacle of day one of the boxing day test at the renovated MCG. Probably wont bother much after that.

Well done Ponting and co.

I find it seriously funny that they were knighted for winning the ashes, will Vic be de-knighting them after such a dismal, yet typically english effort thus far?

This series will forever be remembered as the last of the three giants of Australian cricket. Warne, McGrath and Martyn.

Now I'm just waiting for Gilchrist to retire so he can take over Ian Healy's spot in the commentary box.

Kerry was an old Marist brothers Kogarah boy .

LOL:

During commentating for the 2005 Ashes series in England and observing the two English batsmen play and miss several times, O'Keeffe opined: "there's more nicks here than a Greek wedding."
