we really need a strong bench moving forward
We all know Mary will pick a back
Assuming Lomax is in the 13 then my back would be Field
Then the lottery
Lawrie ( assuming Host in )
Luc
Now for the fourth spot
No to Latimore
Timms ?
Kerr ?

For me it is Robson in for Field even if Robson is moving on at the end of the season. At a pinch he can play in the hooker position, the backrow and maybe even halfback if required.

Aitken on the bench for Lomax and Lomax at 3.
Pearson in for Rava
Dufty gets another chance unless Mary selects Lomax at fullback and bring Kerr onto the bench.

It is totally f**ked ...

Our bench is to serve to purposes
1. Give our players a break
2. Up the intensity

Latimore gives everyone a break - he is easy to tackle and doesnt hit hard in defence ... He allows the opposition players out there to rest in position.

Rava was pointless on the bench and as seen couldnt cover the back that was injured

Aitken can provide impact given the enegry he runs with and he is good for 20 minutes high energy running

Timm / Lawrie / Aitken / Korbin would be a much better bench when Korbin is back

we cannot waste 4 interchanges on Frizell either.

Mary's use of the bench against the Rorters was very strange and obviously had a negative effect on the game.
Lawrie has been playing great as starting Lock with a really high work rate in defence and some useful hitups. Does around 50 - 55 munutes with tackles in 40's with very low missed tackles. So what did Mary do, put him on the bench and sent Host ( who usually plays 40 minutes ) out therefor the full 80 and that's after Host looked injured just 5 days before. Weird.

I'm hoping we either get JDB back soon or get some dispensation from the NRL to buy in a prop / lock to cover us - in fact I'm disappointed this hasn't happened already.

Our bench at some stage would hopefully be ;
Lawrie - with JDB starting Lock.
K.Sims
Host
Leilua

or if no JDB ;
K.Sims
Leilua
Host
? - new prop / random back / Latimore.

When McInnes tires towards the end of a half, he gives away penalties due to fatigue. The rotation with Robson - leaving or not - would benefit our team in 2019. Robson can also double up for a place in the backrow rotation.

When K Sims returns, a prop rotation of Vaughan, James, k Sims and Lawrie with Kerr/Timm being reserves in the prop rotation. Our young props should be used as replacement at the first sign of injury or fatigue. In this way our props would be kept in better shape throughout the season.

So one spot left on the bench for a backrow forward and this should be shared between Leilua and Host depending on the makeup of our team and the nature of opposition we are facing in a particular round. Leilua can play edge and middle. More and more I see Leilua playing in the middle because of his size.

I would love for Leilua to be allocated a personal coach who could help him emulate the Beatson style of game.

Ravalawa on the bench because he needed a rest! Hahaha, that eclipses the 98m fields imo as the new champion of derpness.

Brian Johnson and all the board should hang their heads in shame at the early re-signing of this imposter. However, they are more likeky just to bury their heads in the sand and wait for the next "win" to resurface.

I keep reflcting back to the break made between Rava and JP. Imagine if it was Field rather than Rava..........game over.

If McDerpdace continues to want a back on the bench, then that has to he Field imo. Offers the X-factor we need and in combo with Dufty would be electric when he comes on. He can cover the halves which would give McInnes a break with Hunt to hooker (yes i've changed my tune on this) for a short stint.

Latimore should never grace the bench again, but no doubt McDerpface would replace him with Allgood.

For the time being (K. Sims and JDB case to he determined soon) thw benxh should be.

Lawrie, Timm, Luc and Field.

Host is a long minute player, having him off the bench serves little purpose when Leilua, who is suited to shorter minutes/impact, can play edge. He either starts (with Friz at lock) or he goes back to reserve grade and learns to channel the frustration into some on field aggression.

Other than that, we just need Marketo.

Bench selection/rotation, for me, is the biggest single negative of SuperCoach. Five years in & it’s even worse than 2 years ago(Mann to middle forward FFS).
I’m thinking if JDB is playing either Luc or Lawrie is playing reggies because of this stupid policy of carrying a back on the bench.
I think Korbin is straight on the bench & should take the place of Latimore(getting lazy & isn’t lifting the intensity) & Kerr is the 4th bench player(I don’t know much about Timm). Things change again if JDB comes back but a 4 forward bench is how the grown ups do it & we should be no different.

If Mary must pick a back then I’d go:
Field (otherwise Robson if it were up to me)
Timm (coin toss with Kerr)
Leilua
Host (I’d start Lawrie)

At full strength I’d have:
Widdop (if it were up to me I’d probably play a 4th forward in Leilua)
Sims (in place of Leilua)
Lawrie (JDB to starting lock)
Host

The bench should comprise of any of the following: Host, Leilua, Kerr, Robson, Sims and Field only.

Notes: Lawrie has been sensational this year and deserves a starting spot. Timm is an unknown quality...I simply haven’t seen enough of him to make an appropriate judgement.

IMO its not just the bench it is also the starting side.
The balance of the forward pack has never been correct and we have the wrong pairings of players off at the same time and we also have some players in the wrong position.
We started with Frizz at lock until injured then we had Lawrie at lock and then all of a sudden we had Host there last week all a bit of a mish mash.
Allowing for the fact JDB is out the forward pack needs careful consideration as to who plays where.
IMO Graham should come from the bench and Lawrie should start the game as a prop.
If Graham does come from the bench then you can't have 2 slower, older forwards on the bench so Latimore off to CC.
When Vaughan come off Graham goes on.
When Lawrie comes off K Sims (when available) goes on.
The spare prop in the rotation Kerr or Timms.
The back row is best served IMO with Host & Sims as the starting back rowers and Frizz at lock. Reasoning is that Host actually runs better lines than Frizz so in the end will become far more useful playing wide and Frizz actually has a huge tendency to run to the centre to attract defenders anyway.
So for me
Starting forwards
Lawrie, Mc Innes, Vaughan
T Sims, J Host
T Frizzell
Bench
Graham
Kerr
Leilua
K Sims (when available)
Until then Robson or Ford (time to upgrade him to NRL status)

Bench should contain two wingers in case both our wingers get injured.

Masterful plan I must say, but I’m gunna suggest a slight alteration. My figures suggest we need 4 wingers on the bench. 2 wingers are there for a rest (give them a pillow and tell them to lay down) The other 2 wingers directly replace any winger injured during the game. That way when our wingers receive the ball in open space will they run like the wind.

The hardest part will be finding another 3 wingers with hands like feet.
