I use to despise it. Now I don't miss an episode lol.

I feel sorry for Penny's boobs. She clearly has none so they get her to wear the lowest tops & her bra squishes them together. She must hvae tears on her side boobs.

Though one thing that does shit me is the 'pause laugh' as I call it. One of the guys (usually Sheldon) says something really stupid/smart/weird, then there's a 2 second pause, then they reply & the audience laughs. Irritating.

I youtubed the bit you were talking about, and I'm not sure you would need to understand the Doppler Effect to laugh at the joke. Most of the jokes are just, as you say, lolling at nerds, despite the references to ideas and theories that the average viewer may not fully understand.
i suppose that was half my point, i just didn't really lay it out that way. understanding the references gives you added depth to a lot of the jokes, but it isn't necessary to find them funny.

We have the first 4 seasons on DVD, but it's my wife that watches it - despite that, she still clogs up a big chunk of the IQ planner with episodes recorded off 9 and GO! (it's something ludicrous like 20 episodes a week combined at the moment).

I'll watch it occasionally, and I think it's OK - much, much better than 2 and a Half Men.

But Community is still streets ahead, as well as Parks and Recreation - that is the best show coming out of the states at the moment IMO.

There's always a small smug sense of satisfaction when you get a joke that you know none else watching does.

Watched it a few times, seems like it's a show catered to stupid people to make them think they're intelligent. Most of the jokes are just word dropping but are far from intelligent.

But it comes from the same people who bring you two and a half men, not much really needs to be said. I can honestly say I've never laughed once watching it, cringed a few times though.

lol, nice backhand there. i can tell you with little doubt that people smarter than you still find the show funny, and the fact that you don't has nothing to do with your level of intellect, so best take your hand off your c**k.

it's a mainstream sitcom, and should be judged in that context. it's hardly "intelligent" comedy, but there is plenty in there for the nerd/closet nerd, too. saying otherwise is being elitist for the sake of it, and false.

Much like any decent sitcom, most of the jokes are character based. It's nowhere near on the same level, but I'm fairly sure if I watched a single episode of Seinfeld I wouldn't think it was all that great. Early on I thought HIMYM was average...now it's my favourite current show. Character development and jokes and shit

Personally of all the sitcom's on at the moment it would have to be the best (and that's not really a compliment) just how poor IMO sitcoms are these days personally I don't think there has been anything worth watching religiously since Becker.

However they have hinted another season of Red Dwarf which would be sweet.

Comparing the Big Bang Theory to Seinfeld is laughable. If Chuck Lorre is still making close to $100m a year 10 years from now, from Big Bang Theory residuals, I'll eat my hat

It wasn't a backhand at all. The jokes are dropping intelligent words into jokes that quite often have little context, but if you understand part of it, that's the joke I guess?

It should be judged in the context of whether it's funny or not. People who say it's an intelligent comedy are just plain wrong, it isn't, it's a dumb comedy hidden under the guise of being intelligent.

I have a degree in electrical engineering and computer science... I'm the "demographic" you talk about, the jokes about my related fields make me cringe not laugh
