I’ve been saying it since day dot, the coaching ranks are the real problem. They all get jobs because they were a Bellamy or Robinson assistant . It means squat .
Also if you are Trying to be a Bellamy clone , you actually have to have a better squad to beat him , as he is the original and best with his tactics.

Good example of couple of coaches doing decent , Morris proper education , lower grade success short stint as assistant and with the squad he has had and issues he has over achieved
Hoolbrook , lower grade coach with good success , assistant at nrl then went and coached successfully in ESL... you could see the titans Improve last year because he can coach and now a top 8 side with a couple of astute signings
Griffin is no clone and look at the dragons .
Bennet is coach to them all

Wasn't Holbrook an assistant to Robinson at the Roosters before going to ESL?
no matter tho, he probably should have gotten some sort of accolade from turning the titans around, they had pretty good end to their season, and if the 2020 season was 25 normal rounds, id say they would have been in the finals, with their trajectory

Dogs putting enormous pressure back on the donkeys who already had so many things going against them like lack of talent and a non existent defensive attitude

The early season blow outs were just teams getting used to the rules and conditioning.

Does anyone know if teams have a defence coach for just the right hand side?

So many soft tries this year with defenders in no man's land.

Seems like rumours of the divide may have been greatly exaggerated

this round
Close games (Games won by 6 points or less) = 2
Not close games (Games won by more than 6 points but less than 18) = 1
Blow outs (games won by 18 or more) = 5

compared to 2018 same round
Close games (Games won by 6 points or less) = 3
Not close games (Games won by more than 6 points but less than 18) = 3
Blow outs (games won by 18 or more) = 2

compared to 2019 same round
Close games (Games won by 6 points or less) = 3
Not close games (Games won by more than 6 points but less than 18) = 4
Blow outs (games won by 18 or more) = 1

This round reinforced a divide, not lessened it

Yeh but did the dogs win in that round in 2019 as a dog win counts as 3 close games on its own

How would those stats point to the "divide" mate?

Surely you would have to compare results of the "top" sides against the bottom sides?

The Cowboys, Manly and Dogs all won, teams that are considered "bottom" sides in 2021.

Kick your brain into gear next time.

Blowouts in the grand scheme of things mean nothing:

2 points seperate 6th and 12th.

2 basket cases after round 4. NQ and Manly have won 3 in a row

Penrith struggled v Broncs.
Souffs struggled v WT and GC
Parra lost to Dragons
Canberra are broken

well the thread is around have the new rules created a bigger divide and led to more blow out games. Most rounds so far the stats would say yes.
But thanks for the advice, mate lol

and just to add to the statistical evidence re the divide, the current top 5 clubs points differences are all over plus 100, in 2019 none of the top 5 had over 100 points difference and in 2018 only 2 did, 2017 none did. Likewise the negative points difference of the bottom 5 clubs this year is significantly higher than pre rule changes.

There is a growing evidence base that the rule changes have caused not only a bigger divide between the haves and have nots but that fewer games are close. Might get better as year goes on but by round 8 the stats are pretty conclusive.

Sharks are 13th with a plus 8. So differential means nothing

As for the rules. You still have other things affecting it that is an easy out to blame the rules.

Lets look at the ANZAC Day blow outs

Warriors v Storm. Warriors have a stack of injuries. Had their captain out of position. Had 12 players at one stage.

Dragons v Roosters. Dragons conceded 2 tries with 12 players on the field missed 33 tackles.

Both those games if the losing side doesn't go to 12 men it is closer.

Warriors have the players they were missing it is even closer.

Not sure there are rules that can be used to help in those situations.

If you can get to the last few rounds and Top 8 still isn't decided then it is a good season regardless of the odd blowout

The divide is seeming to be closing because the crap sides are starting to play each other. Of course you are going to get close games when teams are at roughly the same standard.
