The Bomber Morris Issue

Admittedly have not read the first 5 pages of this thread but didn’t want to stat another one to say this.

I reckon the club re signs him 100% for a few reasons.

1. He has not once had room in the cap to mould his team. We had breach penalty for 2 years and have had money sitting on the bench for the same 2 years.
Players he didn’t sign.

2. We made the finals - I imagine that’s a KPI that has not been a fail for him.

3. He has a history with the club and it’s current crop of juniors, I just don’t see the club throwing that knowledge away.

4. Lastly ... give me a better realistic option (think about it before you say Matt Elliot or something other) without breaking the bank.

I feel like we have the chance to build on him
And not waste what he has started the last couple of years. Let’s not do a dragons and replace Mary with Mary’s dad.

Hit me with your thought...what happens in this space??

I think he's done great job so far, given circumstances. Obviously Défense is an issue, but since when do young players step up to first grade and immediately get it 100% right .with positioning ,strength, stamina technique and teamwork etc ? Especially the gifted attacking players.... Even most of the greats took some time ( eg Rogers, E.T , Renouf, …). In case of Rogers and E.T. they ended up being great in defence as well after a few seasons. I think Lewis and Gal will have fantastic input next year , Little concerned about the other assistant coaches , But Morris has made the call on what he wants with what he can offer so i look forward to see how they go.

I think we are short a couple of key players ,but maybe some of the older players will get over injuries etc and lift , and some of younger ones see the opportunity to step up and fill the void . Should be interesting . Id be disappointed if we dont easily make the 8 after stuttering start..

Your last point is the clincher on why I agree.
Who are we getting in that is a guaranteed upgrade?

I am on record as saying that Bomber was put in this position about 3 years too early, which means 2022 will be the time when he is realistically probably ready to be a 1st grade coach, and that is my preference as well.
There is one name that will be thrown about, and that name is Flanagan.
Until the club has shot down that notion there will be speculation. Anyone who knows how the Flange works he will have his pocket journos running little dribs and drabs to keep his name in the spiral.

Yeah I think Bomber Defn got his shot too early and valid point on Flanno, I momentarily forgot about him. Was too tired getting up to watch the NFL.

Flanno is probably the only realistic option that’s a certain upgrade.

Can’t believe Flanagan is being bandied about, but can see merit in it.
Don’t get me wrong, bomber has been solid and it would be an absolute backward step to “bring back the Flanagan band”, but the club has a history of making odd decisions... and this would be another one.

Respectfully ,but strongly disagree . Too early ? Opportunities come when they come and the winners step up and take them when they come. Yes it was not best with players he played with in roster , injured overpayed players Salary cap crap , another coaches roster, etc .etc... But wait three yrs ? Just useless speculation. Some things would have changed for better , some for worse . . Reality check .... What did happen was he took the challenge and performed remarkably well. Obviously the glittering prize ?.... ,well he did not win it .... Yet!

Disagree as much as you want, the fact is one of the main reasons he got the job was because he was the cheapest option, as were his assistants.

You are using the tried and true excuses that all coaches use when they have fallen short of what they desired. Straight out of a handbook those ones.

I dont consider the team finished remarkably well, in fact going by our statistics from last season we were deadset average. Maybe I just like to win more, or at least be more competitive than you, it happens.
He wasn't ready, but i think he will be soon. Having Mooney, Gal and Lewy there is going to help a long way as well.

I don't like losing anymore than anyone else does . So little do I like it Im willing to wear the disappointment of losing a few battles to win the war . " Hes three years off " is as much an excuse as any other . Team (and club)was probably left in position of" three yrs off as well" so I cant see where Flanno would improve that, and Im a Flannophile. Looking around at some of the other "experienced coaches" who were supposed to provide instant fixes and I think "Cheap or not" we got best coach for the situation. Can he win a GF ? Well looks like he's addressing most of the concerns that the better analysts on here have mentioned . Time will tell . You cant harvest a crop b4 its ready.

Despite Stakes protests....I don’t believe there is a bomber issue. We are going through a rebuilding period which will be complete in ‘22 when we can go actively into the player market to compliment our up and comers. At least during our rebuilding periods we are competitive and sneak into the 8 consistently. The Goons have been rebuilding for a decade and are still horse shit and always holidaying in September.

They’re that bad, they don’t even compete for their old April Premiers title anymore....

I never said I wanted Flanno back.
Morris is the lowest paid coach in the competition by a long way, that is why he got the gig. If he was experienced enough, and others wanted him, he would have got more, like he will probably in a couple of years when he actually is a real 1st grade coach.

I don’t know what it is but to me he always feels like a long term caretaker coach. I feel like Todd Payten was the the same but already he has surpassed Morris in regards to respect and authority when it comes to player interactions.
Disclaimer: I have no foundation for this opinion other than hearing Morris speak at pressers and in the media.

There are not many current coaches I have any real respect for these days.
Bellamy, doing it the NFL way, very professional. Very lean outfit.
Cleary, as above, a good coach with the young .
Robbo, biggest budget with oldest players, still gets a great performance from the geriatric ward.
Bennet is still going good but dose some dumb stuff with players off the bench.
Sheens, tired but likes the money.
Toovey even though he is Manly, very tough and would get rid of under performers.
Payton still new with a tough gig.
Boxhead unknown.
Paul Green, looked very tired at the end.
Ricky, intense, and wears his relationship with players out . Hence turnover.
The rest have either to much money to play with like the Roosters or are ex players to dumb to understand the new changing rules.
I’m a fan of Morris, we have no real money for players at the moment and he has looked to the alternative which is youth. He is stuck with Flanno’s mistakes plus current injuries and we will still probably make the eight. If Gal and Lewy want to help him they should have a word with our group of handbrakes ,Woodsy,Chadsy,Mozzy and Fifi about moving on .

Anyone posting a side where chad Townsend isn’t in the 7 is wasting their time. No way Morris has the berries to drop him.
