The Brad Arthur Myth...

First off... I want to make it clear that in not having a go at Brad Arthur.

He's done a great job with the Eels and I'm excited about the direction the team is heading in.

But one thing that's really been bugging me... This f**king idea that all these Manly players are heading to Parra because they have special relationship with Brad Arthur is ludicrous IMO...

Arthur was an assistant at Manly for 1 bloody season... He was an assistant under Bellamy and later Kearney for twice as long...

Geoff Toovey was an assistant at Manly for over 5 seasons before taking over as head coach so I find it head scratching that you have all these stories about Manly players having a special relationship with Brad Arthur...

Hell.... I think Matt Parish was an Eagles assistant for longer than Arthur was...

Either Brad Arthur is some sort of persuasive football messiah or that Manly playing group are seriously weak willed and downright disrespectful to Geoff Toovey...

If it's the latter... You would think there will be J-Dubs and Mormons getting ready to go door knocking through Manly...

To be a quality team in any sport you have to be able to win on the road and not just at home, even under Brad Arthur we still haven't been able to improve upon this as of yet,get us away from Pirtek and we crumble and play like Wazn, until Mr Arthur improves this i don't think that he is the next Supercoach everyone says

P.S Brendan Mcullum is a scrub

Yup.... But why is everyone buying in to all this bullshit that they were close to Brad Arthur...

And why the f**k were there stories around that Manly were looking to sack Toovey for him...

Geoff Toovey IS Manly IMO... I find it sad the way the guys been blindsided by all of this..

Yeah I would be amazed if Toovey got sacked. He is going great on field and the dramas at the club don't have anything to do with him.
Clubs don't seem to want to admit that players joined for money because it isn't a good story to sell to their fans. They want to hear some bollocks about how great the coach is and how he will improve their game or how the team is a premiership contender. Unless it's Cronulla, their fans know it's the money.

I love the mocking nickname that Manly fans have given The Dalai Arthur but I am 83% sure it will blow up in our faces. Oh well...

Manly has a truckload of problems that can be tracked down to a particularly rotund gentleman and a player with a very chequered rap sheet early on in his career for troublemaking. (To the extent that he had his origin papers stamped 'never again' for a time) The board was too busy slinging shit at each other to deal with it.

I can understand why players would want to leave that environment.

Na, but he probably borrowed one of Gorgeous George's fridges without getting clearance for it at some stage.

Working alongside someone for a year is plenty long enough to decide whether you enjoy working for them or not.
Just because they spent more time with Toovey and Parrish doesn't mean they would like them any more.

I don't rate Arthur as a coach. He reminds me of Bellamy without all of the toys. He might get you to the finals, perhaps a semi. I'm doubtful he will get you a premiership.

As for the concept of players wanting to follow him. Have you ever worked at a place where management are fighting constantly? If somebody in your team leaves, don't you wish you could too? Especially if they are good to work with.

Tbh I am not sold on Arthur's either, as my rationale was that anyone could've improved the eels from sturat. Not saying Arthur's won't be a successful coach, just I think it is too early to determine if he is good or not, and what worries me was the fact he was out coached by Stuart last year.

What are you lol'ing at? What would your club know about premierships in the last 30 years?

Pressure will be mounting... You have the Warriors away and Bunnies at home. You may only have 1 win after 4 rounds. Keeping in mind you missed the finals last year in a rather poor way. He needs success or you might end up with Kearney back... That's what I heard reported.

One year is plenty for players to decide whether or not they liked working alongside him. If the current situation is making them unhappy, Brad Arthur is a safe bet for these players considering they worked with him not long ago and have seen the improvements he has made to the Eels in his time there.

Will he take Eels to a premiership? Probably not with the current roster or even the one they will have in 2016. But if he can get the right team there they can do it. It's just a matter of whether or not these big money signings will allow them to put a quality roster around them. It's a huge gamble IMO, but it's possible it will pay off.

At the very least he has turned the Eels into a competitive football team with a bit of heart.
