The Brian Smith and Eels Support Thread

I am aware I have rode the Smith rollercoaster. I have felt the highs and lows.

But let me get one thing straight - as long as he is Parramatta's Head Coach, I am behind him 100%. I'll admit I have gotten frustrated with him on many occassions for many reasons. But I would not want him to leave until such a point when he can no longer do anything in the least for the Eel.

So with this in mind, I create this topic.

This is to show your support for Parramatta and Brian Smith.

I am very excited about Saturday night - so much so that I've decided to attend the match and then attend my mate's party.

Brian. Boys. Listen - Parramatta Eels means THE WORLD to me. You all rule. BS and the boys are the greatest blokes on Earth, and I want you to know that, although sometimes I may be critical of the coach or a player who had a bad game, I will ALWAYS be 100% behind the team.

UP THE MIGHTY EELS AND LONG LIVE OUR COACH SMITH!

For one i dont mind these coach support threads going around, but in reality its Smithy's last shot and nothing we say can effect the way the season will turnout, the thing is coming seasons end if we perform the Smithy baggers will cop it and if we have a shocker year then the Smithy Supporters will cop it!

I'll always attribute B.Smith with the credit of turning our club around in the mid 90's when we were really struggling, I mean really struggling! He brought us swiftly back to the top and there would be no better way to reward him and the boys than with a Premiership title. Hopefully it will come this year. We have the cattle to do it. C'MON PARRA!

MPE: totally agree but really I just wish the Smith baggers would have given Smith at least 1 game before bagging him

The point of this thread NOW (seeing as the season hasn't even yet begun) is to just let the coach and team know that thier fans are behind them.

And thanks doggie diva. Good luck to your team too!

Its a nice sentiment Eelementry.

But the thread should not be needed. it should be assumed that everyone here supports the coach, the team and the club at the start of the season, let alone at any other stage in the year. Sad that it is not the case..... :( :(

I agree with this thread 110%. Debate and discussion about the coach's selctions and methods is always healthy but i hope that we have a year where we can all agree with the direction Smithy is pushing the players in. Feeling positive! Go Parra.

If anyone can seriously suggest Smith does not have his best intensions when making decisions about our team and our club they really do need there head read.

If anyone of the doubters would actually take some time to find out how dedicated this human being is towards the success of our club then they would quickly realise he is the man to take us forward for as long as he desires to.

Some un-educated fools really need to wake up to themselves and start being proud of their club. I sure know I am!!
VERY PROUD!!!!

here here.

i'll never forget my first meeting with Brian Smith in 1999. What a genuine and intelligent bloke we have running our footy team and its upsetting to read the sort of drivel that he was copping in these pages and on talkback radio over the past couple of years. Just remember that this was the same coach that took us to our most successful season (minus a premiership) ever in 2001, and you can hardly blame him for the players just not switching on in those first 20 minutes of the GF that year.

Brian Smith is a good Tactical coach but his player selections on occasions have let us down e.g this weeks team.

They can't let us down until they have played!

Its a bloody awesome forward pack though.

13.Hopkins
12.Cayless(c)
11.Hindmarsh
10.Vella
9.Morris
8.Pearson

And off the bench you Have Peek,Stapleton and Cannings.

ALOT OF BEEF.

Im very happy about the Forward pack...If they get on top of The Dogs pack then we are in with a Very good chance.

Vella really needs to lift and find that 2001 form we know thats there.

I think a great measure of Smitty as a coach is the sheer amount of talent he has coached and, due to the cap, has had to let go.

I mean if our whole team went on sale tomorrow, we wouldn't have a team left by 6 PM!

Another good measure is how much the blokes respect him - I read an article a few weeks back where some players who had to leave due to the cap restrictions actually called up and said how much they missed it there.

Plus yesterday they showed footage on the 5 o'clock news on TEN of Eels' training. They wore the tackling suits and didn't take it easy - it was TOUGH! And then this morning I saw the training footage of the Dogs running up and down stairs and playing touch footy.

Granted, they obvioudly will focus on different issues but heck - the Eels are puped and prime!

And although this thread may not be needed, I just thought it'd be nice to have a nice, big thread here where the players and coach (if they visit the board) can see how we are all 100% behind them.

Very True. But we can't go back and change the team after the game either. I agree that we need to give this a chance but I feel the problem is that people don't like a few things about the selections:

1. Daniel Wagon at 5/8 - Many people think he will play there all match and stuff up the attack.
2. Peterson in the Centres. Seen as a winger and other centres were left out.
3. The ommission of a few players new to the club - This is because they want to see if these guys are good or not.
