To me, defensively, they look like a team that's terrified of getting penalised for ruck infringements. They're not dominating tackles, they're soft up the middle, and they're not getting up off the line.

Week in, week out we are being outmuscled in the forwards.
That's 3 times this year, to those premierhip-heavyweight-force-to-be-reckoned-with-superpowers-of-the-game, the Tigers, The Rabbitohs, and the Cowboys.

Even in the darkest depths of the early 90's I could look upon our team as at least having a go and having some heart.

On tonights performace, there is no way I can say that about those guys

OOOhhh so true!!!!!
Nutley was a second off begging Mander not to penalise him tonight because a cowboy tried to milk a flop. They were panic struck in getting away from the ruck.
Now if you do that for 300 rucks, they're gonna score some tries.

*We won some points tonight with Mander.

*Points are up for grabs depending on how much air time Noddys refereeing instruction to mander gets.

I can't agree with the enthusiasm assessment.
On TV you can see it in their eyes. They are trying very very hard.
On trying hard, actually I will start another thread on it, f**k it was funny.
I have no doubt they are trying very hard. But they lack the enthusiasm that we saw against the broncos and co last year. When Newton, Nutley, Bailey, Hilder were all pulling off huge tackles one after the other. Nutley had enthusiasm last night... Guys like Iso and Bicker were just doing nothing. Youth brings enthusiasm. Some of our best games last year was when the team had youth in the forwards (Broncos, Drags and to a lesser extent the warriors). You'd see 3 or 4 in a tackle every time. You'd see back slapping all the time. You'd see huge hits. It was great.

Tonight we saw Nutley trying to Gee everyone up to only see Iso and Bicker acting like they didn't care. That is why I like Dumas and Newton. Both love work, both love putting on big hits and both love the game. They are young and what is missing in a forward pack with enough hard heads in it.

How many times does Dean Treisters name come up many more the it needs to be, he would nto have won us the game tonite, i could understand everyone wanting him back if a) he was a rep player or b) won us a comp he did neither he was a first grade player no more and no less

SSB68 you're obviously a Brissy based shark supporter but FFS did you ever watch a sharks game when THE Deano played. If at least half our team had his PASSION and LOVE for the Cronulla guensey mate we would be undefeated this year, he IS a champion. I'm 51 years old and the sharks have been MY team since 1973 and my favourite players are ET,Michael Speechley and Dean Treister, they are all champions and they all loved the mighty sharks,so don't you dare say they couldn't win a game singlehandledly because they could. I'm pissed off tonight!

about ruck infringements ....Rapes adressed it in the post match ....

Says we were killed in the ruck department because the boys were so scared of getting pinged. He said they were going to work on a median during the week

Well 5 games into the season and what has happened, we are looking worse then last year, and the difference last year the people were wanting andos head this year nothing Raper must perform, if by mid season we havent one half our games, then we must reconsider his contract hopefully we have get out clause, as Raper just sits and watches the game no emotion win or lose, look at Ricky Stuart his team were losing to Broncos and he was so into the game we are losing to teams struggling and Raper doesnt seem to care, Hope he shos morew when we play the big guns or maybe Raper will nto be at the club long

Yes, the last two weeks we have lost badly. But losing worse last year, I don't think so. The narrow loss to the Bulldogs was better than any of the dross we dished up last year. We have six or seven players out injured or suspended. Last year which was a nightmare, Ando had the best team on the paddock week in and week out, and we didn't a game until round 10.
That's right, 11 May 2003.

Last year we lost 4-30 Brisbane, Roosters 20-40, Parramatta 4-74, Tigers 12-44 (ran third last), Manly (ran second last) 18-36, Raiders, Panters 0-20, Raiders 12-40.

Review Raper's contract, after 5 rounds? Who are we going to get to replace him, Peter Sharp? BTW a minority of people wanted Ando's head at this time last year, most wanted him to get a chance to finish his three year tenure. So we sack Raper after six games, oh yeah that's really intelligent, mate. That's called PANIC and OVEREACTION. I say let's see where we are at the end of the season.

Raper doesn't care, bullshit! He looked mortified on the sidelines last night.

I've never subscribed to the "bring back Deano" theory, believing we should move forward, rather than back.

But watching this rabble I am starting to be converted.

He would bring much needed passiong back to the side, and tighten up the fringes of the ruck.

Whether that gets us a win or not is debatable

I hope he doesn't go too far. If we can salvage one thing from this gloomy-looking year it should be getting back our old clean, disciplined reputation. Last night was a start. It may be costly in the short term, but it will make the players realise how much they need to catch up to the other teams in terms of speed around the ruck.

For gods sake raper bring back dean triester and put everyone out of thier misery. Deano will win the premiership for us single handed and part the red sea and turn water into wine and walk on water. Please someone start up another topic and BRING DEANO BACK.

Actually just on Raper I was very disappointed with him sending Isemonger out to replace Beattie last night.

We lost out size and intimidation straight away (not that Beats has been intimidating this year)
Surely you'd send Williams out at that stage.

A very negative move that one.

It's very unfair to criticise Raper at this early stage. Anderson left the club in total shambles and it will take time for consistently good results to occur again.

Raper needs to stand up and make some big calls this week. Some young guys definitely need to be thrown in to at least spark some enthusiasm.

I've been against resigning Triester but now I think it should be a priority. He's the only person who I can think of to bring some passion into this pathetic side of ours.

I thought before he was appointed that SR wasnt ever going to be the saviour

I toned down my rhetoric because of what he said in the media etc
But I've seen nothing impressive yet

The only redeeming factor is that it is Anderson's team
I'd like to see SR build his own team

As an outsider, I must say that in the games I have seen the Sharks play so far there seems to be no real definable style of play.

It's half Raper .....half Anderson.

I wonder which one of you Bring back Deano w@nkers are Treister himself. You idiots have to be on drugs, He spent the best part of 2001 in reserve grade because he was playing like a sheila and was dropped by Anderson because he wouldn't play to the coaches instructions. Top that off with the petty whinging display he put on in the sunday paper after he was punted (Nick Graham was at least a man about it). Treister was a first grade footballer who could have good games and bad games, turn up on the day or dog it like the rest of them. This Deano and passion crap is rewriting of an average history.

Well as stated by my age in a previous thread I ain't DT and obviously Wa.... you ain't. What I will say if any of our current players had the pride in their guensey as Deano did the sharks wouldn't be where they are this year(last) and if they had the passion Deano had we may have lost the games we have BUT we wouldn't have been humiliated like we have. This team is a disgrace to every team(sharks) that Cronulla have put on the field since I have supported them(1973),there is no pride or passion by a majority of the players. Phil Bailey...phtt...send him packin and give Deano some of that money.
