The Coach

What is everyones opinion on our Coach, the great SR ??
How important is the coach to the overall results the team is achieving ??
Do you think a top coach like WB or RS could walk into the Sharks tomorrow and by next year have us competing with the big boys ?? Or is it a case of Humphrey B Bear could take over the reigns of the Broncos/Rooster and they would still win. Do you feel SR is giving the boys the right direction and game plane it takes to win a game in the NRL or is he still using tactics that gave him success in England ?

I've been impressed with the fact we seem to be able to score tries from further out than 5 metres from the opposition line, unlike Ando's reign of terror...especially 2003. I also like the way he fixed the discipline up.

I really do like Stuey and i think he offers a great deal to the sharks, so far i feel he has done a great deal, and is nearly finished getting that anderson disease out of our body, we are playing better football, and he has my full support.
I felt he was never going to come in here straight away and work magic!, it would take time, but he is doing alot of good things and i will continue to support him.

Yeah I dont mind the man. I was initially unsure, but I trust him as coach now. He has showed what the boys are capable of on the paddock. He had a huge job on his shoulders, and I think he is doing a great job under the circumstances.

he's got my support. no coach ever will be able to please all of the fans all of the time, but he's shown he's taking us ina positive direction after overcoming a helluva lot of negativity in almost record time.

we just don't have the players at the moment to seriously challenge for the comp. we're short a couple of dependable outside backs and another big aggressive forward.

i say promote saleh and newton and we're getting closer, but SR's the coach !

He gets a positive reaction from the players. I personally think we have the personnel to go a long way this year, its just a matter of ironing out the kinks first.

If this were Stuey's second year I'd say we'd be up amongst the top of the ladder. Whether we have the personnel to go the whole way is another matter, but that's an issue to be looked at come July.

He's got my support.

I was one who wanted Ando retained, but I have been impressed with Stuey so far.

A real no nonsense, just go about your business approach.
And he's refreshingly candid when interviewed.

I'm not so sure... I'm not willing to write him off, but I don't think he's in the same league as WB and RS.

I do think we have the players to win the competition - I'm not sure if we have the coach.

I too like the way Stuey coaches us and hope he is retained for at least 3 years to get the team going his way. He seems to have got rid of the terrible andoisms that were left with him and the players and has pushed onward. He has done a great job and has the players to go on to better things for the sharks and don't forget the strong wins we have had already this year............impressive

I think that's the thing... I haven't seen too many impressive wins. I think our best game was the loss to the Dogs. The rest has had an air of "we'll score more than you" to it. I think the longer the competition goes, the more our defence will get found wanting. It needs to improve one hell of a lot before we start to worry the better teams.

And the fact is, we can't turn around our defence overnight. It's something that needs to be the focus every week. We have to stop bleeding 25+ points per game.

And I think this is a coaching issue.

Raper has done an excellent job and the team is on the way up for sure. Axing supercoach Anderson instead of letting him hang around until his contract expired was the right move. :)

I think Raper is doing a great job.
He has turned the team around for the better. Our defence has improved, our discipline has improved, we are actually getting across the line this season, the players seem more positive and enthusiastic.

As someone mentioned above, he can't change things overnight, its going to take time, but there is definite improvement in the quality of our side than what we saw last year.

I don't think you could class Raper as the same standard as Stuart or Bennet, but he has definitely been doing some good things and I expect to see more improvement from our team as the season continues

Look at all you talking about "he can't change it overnight, I hope he get 3 years" Are you daft, or just suffer from selective memory??. How is that any different to Anderson???

We've played like a bunch of busted a-holes in almost all our games, we've lost to the 3 worst teams in the comp over the last 3 years in one strecth of games, we can't tackle to save ourselves, we still look bereft of ideas attacking close to the line, we dont have anyone who can kick goals better than Noddy.

We average 19 pts a game for (11th) and over 27 against (LAST), in the next 16 weeks all we have to look forward to are 2 byes, games against Eagles, Rabbits, Warriors and Cowboys, the rest includes 2 games against the Broncos, 1 each against Raiders, Panthers, Knights, Bulldogs, Saints, Roosters and Eels.

We suck as a team as bad today as any other time in 2003 - it's just that some of you half wits have been impregnated by the nepotism ideals that permeate the club, lets all pay homage to the "LOCAL". Because he's a local, he must be doing a better job, we must give him time to rid the boys of that filthy Anderson influence.....I think not.

Lets face it, few of the players have delivered consistent performances, even fewer spectacular match winning form. We're running around with a 30 yo Full-back whose form peaked years ago, two wingers who need super glue in their hands and a brain transplant on defence, no 5/8th of any note or ball playing skill (that's kind of useful, yeah?) and a centre/ lock whose really a 2nd rower with no heart.

Anderson left the club in poor shape and Raper has done a pretty good job in getting the team to improve. Last year it took us until Round 9 to score a win under Supercoach for 2003.

Stuey is a great bloke, doesn't get phased. We have improved and we will keep on improving this year, its just our completion rate is down at the moment and that places alot of pressure on our defence. Soon as we fix that up and a few other things, we'll come good. Theses days you just can't play one style of footy cause all teams are different, now we have the freedom to adapt under raper without going away from the basics of the game. Stuart allows the boys a bit of freedom and he also gives the boys a chance to think for themselfs.

I think its a masterstroke by the club in giving Stuey the job. He has proved it in our lower grades years ago and over in England. This is just another challege for him.

Obviously not a well thought our reply.
Difference = Anderson was handed a CLUB that was near success. He dismantled it & installed procedures that were doomed tio failure, like training at Loftus & changing the team song.
Raper walked into a diabolical mess.

It's called building. I will be disappointed if many of those areas aren't fixed, but Raper seems to have methodical approach to fixing the massive Anderson inuced damage.

HHmm, thanks for the draw update, I was wondering if it had changed.

Well the players & the majority of supporters & all of the sponsors think so, but thanks for your righteous opinion. I think we'll all consider that when we see you post again.

HHmm I have seen Phil Bailey play all year & I think he is consistently one of our best. He won man of the match the other night after his first game back in his favoured position. I spoke to him the other night & to me he seems driven to really turning his game back into what it was last year. Something that was quite impossible for him to do in the centres. He also is driven to get back into SOO.
No heart Bailey?
I think no brain ws engaged for your post.

Thats rough Sharkman, i think Bailey has a massive heart, all you have to do is watch him blow up when someone mess'es with him to see that his heart is in it 100%, i like him and i really hope he stays on.

I think Raper is doing a good enough job. I too like the way we have fixed up the discipline, but wonder how we got that bad to begin with? I like the way he has put Gallen at 5/8 to stiffen the defence. The real test will be what he dose about the kicking.

Raper is playing cards with someone else's hand at the moment.
He is doing ok under the circumstances.
Who do we blame for the massive missed tackle count each week?
When he gets the cards he wants then I'll assess him.
