The defence issue

I dunno. If they had the Sharks side I don't think they would. I'll harp on about this too. It's team of kids. Green kids. Kids who still have soft underbellies. Kids who get tired easy and this leads to other getting fatigued through trying to do 50 1%ers instead of 20 to cover up.

Wasn't gonna look at the backs but there was only a total of 470 games experience in the backs the other night. Take out Dougall and Moyza it's left at 138 games or, an average of 27 per man.

No way Bellamy or Maguire would have conniptions over what's happening with the Sharks side if they were the coach.

The obvious missing link in leadership with the current side is Chad Townsend. People can choose to acknowledge that or not but it's a fact. Anybody, in any walk of life will say that you don't have to be the best worker (player) to be the best leader. It is often what keeps a person in a job.
Frenzy Speaketh great truth here . And in many posts lately . If I could maybe add a little clarification as in my life ive found it applies to all the endeavors ive been involved in as well as sports. Most youth see the basic requirements to perform a task and are chuffed they can do so so well so quickly ,as youth can especially if they are particularly gifted.. They sit back and congratulate themselves not realising the extra 95 % effort and concentration needed to actually excel and get to that higher level consistantly.
Bring in a head banging coach at this stage of development of the squad and he would do more damage than good It would be anderson all over .Fancy getting rid of Campbell and two of the the most passionate sharks he had . Head coach has to be Man manager of the Players and coaching staff. Not just a nutjob punching walls. Look at how Tigers are going now. Bring in some leaders and roll models like in 2016 . Lewis, Ennis, etc... Dont bust fragile egos . Give them the option.. Lasting Success? or brief glory , burnout and dud life . If you want second option Fine -- goodbye! Good bye Cherry , Good bye anyone else who wants the easiest glory road .

I think our biggest defensive issue is opposition big men lining up and running over our smaller guys and in the process opens us up all over the field.
Penrith were just physically too strong for us in both games this year and we couldn’t do anything about it.
Unfortunately for us it’s just not Penrith who’ve got a physical advantage over us.
In the past you could niggle and slow them down in tackles(Eg Storm tactics) but whilst the Storm can absorb the pressure for a few sets still we can’t.That irritating noise (Like a whale trainers whistle)for the repeat sets Is more like a Shark alarm for us.

OMG I could contribute here because this is so true and I live it daily at work with those I manage. I'll keep it short though

Transactional management no longer works. It just doesn't. It's a bit slow these days but transitional and/or transformational management is what works for modern youth and young adults. I find for all the bluff and bluster of today's 18-25 year olds they are full of bluff and bluster but are actually a depressed generation with quite low self esteem and lack of confidence. My staff are 20-25 year old nurses and you can not use a big stick - doesn't work.

No communication out wide, players like Moylan and Williams grabbing, the fullback is to small for last line of defense.

Not too small for last line of defence txta2 but I agree that Kennedy isn’t the solution long term at fullback.

Billy Slater was small (could’ve been a jockey if football didn’t work out).

But Slater was determined, fast, consistent, confident, fit and most importantly had a high awareness of where to be positioned at any given time on the football field and very high football IQ in organising the defence and reading the game.

Kennedy lacks in most of those markers.

There isn't too many full backs that would come anywhere near Slater! I feel you're a bit harsh on Kennedy at this stage of his 1st grade experience -Give him time to get the organising defense part right though his security under high balls has been as good as any of late, and I'm sure he has 1 or 2 try assists!

Fullback defence is so ridiculously hard at the best of times...Slater was incredible but had some of the game's best front-line defence in front of him his entire career, it gave him time and space to grow organisationally and defensively. Hard for a kid like Kennedy to develop with our missed tackle count so high, constantly having to re-count and re-organise the line, re-position, and then attempt more tackles than a fullback should ever have to. I hope he gets there, but to be fair on him, he probably expected (and was expected) to have most of the season developing with the Jets. I think considering all of that he's doing far better than expected..

(p.s. feel for Bubba prob cos I played a season at fullback at 16 in a last placed side and still have nightmares about a front-line defence turning around expecting me to make the tackles they missed...I sucked so fkn much at it... much happier times at hooker from then on getting pot shots on slow forwards with props fixin your mistakes..)

The club should get Matthew Ridge in for advice to Bubba, manly players said how good communicator he was

I was watching the Titans match last night and noticed Jim Dymock in the coaching bocages.
Wasn't he our defensive coach until the end of last season?

Maybe our defence issue is due to letting him go?

Didn’t happen to notice how much our defence sucked the two previous years while he was here??

Dymock is a terrible coach. Will always be overlooked for a full time role. Will always be over looked for an interim role

I agree with this too although I bloody hate it. I recruit apprentices and trainees and they are such precious shits and over sensitive individuals. There are one or two exceptions but mainly they all need to hold mummy and daddy‘s hand most of the time. They have a phone to message or text but 98% of them don’t use it to actually speak on the phone, they are scared shitless. Also heaven forbid if they have bad news to tell you, like they’ve found another job or they’re resigning from their current job just because some Quig called them a drongo. They’ll text or email before they pick up the phone.

Dymock. Lol. Bluntest tool in the shed.

When they created this game in 1908 they made it very simple.
One team has the ball and runs at the other team. If they get past they score.
The other team just gets in front of the guy running with the ball. Theres only one of him so they double up and not only do they stop him, they stop him good. Whack him. Hurt him. Put him down. They loved this game.
They played for free.
They loved smashing the merkin with the ball.
Whack!
Take that you khmerkin!
More of that as well nek time you run!

In 2020 the games pretty much the same.
Bloke runs with the ball.
If he gets through he scores.
Couple of changes.
1. They now get paid about 700k
2. They dont like tackling

You dont need a bloke to teach you to stand up to another guy running at you and win the contest.

You need heart.
Courage.
Will to win.

Thats what too many of our softies dont have.

You ask them do you want to win?
Shit yeeaah!

Are they prepared to do what it takes.
Like a Gallen.
A Cam Murray.
An Ennis.
A maloney.
A sam burgess.
A luke lewis.
A nathan brown.

No theyre not.
It is that simple.
In a simple game our guys are soft.

Dumock is lucky to have a gig at all - pretty sure he has even stated he has no interest in a head coaching role - too much hard work involved. Always a bloody passenger

Defence was better tonight. Although it’s the cows and they don’t throw much at you. The first contact was a million percent better

The line was straight for the majority of the game, there were a couple of times that a player ran out again but the Cows weren't good enough to capitalise on it. If they had been we would have been complaining again.

And here's me spending the past 20 years telling anyone who'd listen that I'm the world's worst fisherman.
Got a few nibbles. Landed a couple. Not bad by my standards... :)

The secret though, Don Juan, may I call you Don Juan? Is to not let it be known that you were out there fishing in The first place, that way you can get your Moby Dick later

Thanks for the tip Bubby. And yes, by all means call me Don Juan. I just created the anagram because I'm inherently lazy and couldn't be bothered typing the whole username anymore :p

That was in the days pre-password manager autofill.
