Jamie Soward is the best half in our squad. The halves are the lynchpin of rugby league.

Jamie Soward is better than Ben Rogers entire family tree.

It is a sudden death match; why the hell do you put a nuffy like sloth Rogers on the field in front of Soward?

I called ducks and drakes last week, and Browny said "f**k you drakey!"

I hope he's playing a trick, I really do.

Soward is a MUST! Without him against Manly i think we are in some big big trouble...

Macarthur, it was an odd comment because Soward has been great in wet weather for us. His kicking game in particular has seen us retain a great record in the wet this year (until the other night, of course). The round 2 clash against the Titans is the perfect example.

Couldn't agree more. I wonder whether there is something else going on that we don't know about. Otherwise I just can't fathom the decision if Soward doesn't play.

Come on boys, there are facts that must make us confident about the Manly game.
1. We know at our best we are a better side than them.
2. Soward WILL play if FIT.
3. We dont deserve to go out in week 1 of the finals as we should have finished higher up the ladder but for being ROBBED in both the games against THE SCUM. The boys will be more desperate than Manly who cant be knocked out.
4.We just have the WOOD on Manly.

Soward featured pretty high on the Dally M ladder, how the f**k could he not be good enough to be in the side in the finals???

Browns parting gift to truly remind us of how incompetent he is..

where is Morris?
Soward is a must !!!
Woolford???? are you kidding me??? is Brown willing to ruin our finals chances for the sake of giving his mate Woolford a first grade farewell??

PLease Mr Bennett can you coach us and Brisbane this week??

Just wait and see who makes up the 17 come Saturday.
Being a semi and having people returning from injury, of course there's going to be an extended bench. The clubs have to name a side on Tuesdays, but that side may be nothing like the 17 that actually take the field come game time.

Woolford I don't mind, ahead of Ellis. His defence is on par with Ellis but at least he can provide SOMETHING with the ball in hand. And coming off the bench late in each half means his lack of speed won't be too much of a problem

I cant understand Soward's omission, there has to be has to be some doubt over his fitness still.

Morris is understandable, it was either him or Sailor IMO and he went for Sailor so I'm not unhappy about it although Morris does deserve to be there.

Woolford is named on an extended bench anyway so he will probably drop off. Even if he doesn't he is better than both Chase and Ellis IMO.

I am not sure you can get fined for that? They have until the final hour before the game to name their sides and wasn't he named?

It is black and white. Soward > Rogers. Why is there any doubt over that? You're focusing on the perceived defensive advantage Rogers has over Soward, which in my opinion it is so small it is negligible. Soward's technique is fine, and he has the pace to mix it with the fast men out wide. The attacking advantages Soward has over Rogers are too numerous to mention, but I will point out the vastly superior kicking game which was so sorely lacking on Friday night. For intense, tough semi final-style games your kicking game needs to be very good to excellent. With Rogers we are well below that level. You mention also Rogers' effectiveness on a dry track (although he has shown a knack for dropping the ball in all kinds of weather). Friday night proved more than "Rogers is useless in the wet". He is also useless when his key teammates (Young, Hornby) are not 100% firing. He's useless when the forward pack is not completely dominating their opponents. He's useless when the defence is a little closer than usual. And of course as mentioned, he struggles to hold a ball. I've been a supporter of Brownie's for a long time but this decision has me quite flabbergasted. He seems to have prioritised defence over everything else - which also explains the continual selection of Ben Ellis who provides nothing more than a high tackle count. But the Soward thing is more confusing because he's not a sh*t defender. I'm gonna pray that there is a late change and Rogers is dumped. Pray til I need to buy kneepads.

IMO Soward is better than Rodgers
Soward defence isn’t shown up until you get close to the line where unless he’s very close to the sideline he has proven a speed hump
Godz I didn’t mention Rodgers’ effectiveness on a dry track. He’s okay but error prone and has given more penalties per game away than any other in the squad. (Manly give about 10% more penalties away than we do BTW so that may stand in our favour)
I said that Sowie may prove supernumerary with Nighty at full back, who provided us with all kinds of options. Now Sowie is untested in that environment and may read the game well enough to know when not to attempt to dominate play. You can’t argue that despite Rodgers shaky play, that with him at 5/8 and Nighty at full back, we proved very effective in attack. Perhaps only bettered by the Storm!

Personally I’d go with Sowie. What I put forward is that the Rodgers decision is not completely without logic or a level of rational thinking

Your are correct in assuming that Rodgers will need to operate under extreme pressure as Manly will come with all guns blazing. Let’s hope that flip Hayne doesn’t let them get away with too much!
I’d love to see the media give him a bath about his performance last week.

Does Rogers deserves all the credit for that? Is he the main reason for the effective attack? No way, imo. Our forward pack were dominating with effortless ease, the defensive lines were mostly back-tracking, and Hornby and Young were firing on all cylinders. Rogers was lucky enough to benefit from these factors, and in most cases (the Brisbane and Warriors games for instance) we were lucky that his errors didn't cost us victory. If Soward was in the team for the Warriors game we win by 50.
