Easts can sign SBW?

Does anyone believe that Easts kept around $750K spare in the cap for 2014?

We don't miss Folau at all but union would be even worse off without him. He is pretty much the only star they have

FFS anyone doubting that SBW wasn't a gun and a coo for the NRL just needs to have a look at the 6,000,000 threads started about him.

What do you mean kept around 750k? SBW is on their books from this year, they wouldn't need another 750k of space

Honestly. For last season we lost Carney, Ryles, Myles, Conn and a host of others, and signed only Dan Mortimer. Going into 2012 we were significantly under the cap. So going into 2013 we had plenty of cap space, with the additional loss of Anasta, Masoe, Cherrington, Symonds and others, and the salary cap increase we could afford to make a few signings.

Don't hate Easts if you're club is poorly run

Actually thinking about its a simple case of Eels shit management, surely they could have talked the guy into being a bit patient while the nrl ratified a contract for him which they did.

Don't blame the Roosters for being run like a great company and Eels for being run like a chook raffle, by 600 different factions.

EDIT: Looking forward to the reaction when Eels loose Hoppa to the Dogs, hopefully that will prompt the members to clean the board out.

No doubt keeping SBW is a coup. But that is a different issue.

SBW was on a one-year deal. No doubt the Eels would have done something like this with no planning, but Easts wouldn't have. A well run club would have no reason to keep this much cap space "spare" & I don't believe that Easts did this.

A constantly changing board is a big part of the problem at the Eels. Regular clean-outs are not a good thing.

Eels could have had every good player at Melbourne as well as their coach before anyone else, mix that with players they tripped over and other clubs picked up. Desperation/foresight/determination/intuition/dedication plus the money they already have is all they need to break the cycle

Lets do this again.
For 2012 we signed Dan Mortimer. We lost Todd Carney. Jason Ryles. Nate Myles. Dan Conn. Phil Graham, Mark Riddell and Kane Linnett. So you can clearly see here in 2012 Easts have kept cap space free so that we could secure SBW in 2013.

And 2014. Even though the first deal was only for 12 months.

So Easts keep enough cap space just in case the most expensive player in either rugby code might be signed? 750K is a conservative estimate. Given that it is SBW and the NZRU Easts were bidding against the amount could easily be double that.

Maybe you need to have a long look at your own club rather than worrying about other clubs first. Parra can't sign Folau because they are crap.

Easts fans are forgetting the upgrades from 20s/nuffy contracts to International players.

No way Cordner is staying minimum. Friend, RTS etc upgrades.

French International coming in.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Penrith paying 50% of Jennings wages in 2013?
If that's the case that's another 2-300k taken away from the cap for 2014.

Easts only spent £3000 on players in 1936, therefore are allowed to carry over cap space. Factoring in inflation, they now have $500,000,000 in cap space for 2014 if they wish to use it.
