RNB is RNB, rock is rock hence why they are located in different sections at Sanity music stores, one didn't evolve from the other. Before Led Zep it was strickly pop and RNB, led zep brought a whole new genre to music.

No they didnt Ron.

rhythem and blues.

Robert Johnson, sold his soul to the devil.

Black blues guitarists from the early 50s. That's where Led Zeppelin's sound can be traced back to. Led Zeppelin's sound is basically an electrified, highly charged version of what was being done in the 50s.

:? exactly blues, led zep weren't blues? what is your point? if you believe they weren't original because they were influenced by rnd then that's plain BS.

Naturally influences play apart, everyone is influenced by someone even Hendrix and Van Halen they had there influences, however they were able to create there own unique sound from these influences which made them different from the rest, same applies to Led Zep.

Zeppelin weren't the first they were just the best.

Ok

Led Zep were the first truely rock group, the rest were either pop or RNB orientated.

Led Zep is a different genre altogether to blues.

No - 'm saying they didnt invent a genre. Led Zep were blues IMO. A highly charged, electrified version of the blues.

A genre, whatever genre it is, is just a marketing label.

Take grunge, the sound of those bands was so diverse, from what you would call punk to sabbath inspired metal. Yet it's all heaped in together.

Led zep branched off from the genre's of the music at the time, much the same as Black Sabbath branced off from led zep.

It's like a f**king family tree this!

Rubbish, they weren't blues! they were rock! that's just like saying Black Sabbath were also blues but had more distortion then Led Zeppelin.

That's why we still have predominate blues and Jazz bands still out there, then we have heavy metal,, rock/pop.

Go and ask Black Sabbath if there music was RNB, i'd like to hear what they say about that?

This is the premortial soup of music, and different genres evolved from it. Don't be so black and white and say everything is blues but modified in a way;-)

Led Zep and Black Sabbath have no relationship imo.

Deep Purple made the metal rock genre famous and Sabbath evolved from there imo, as did Uriah Heep, and Free etc

Zep's sound was original. Their name represents their music, Lead meaning heavy (I know they spell it Led), and Zepplin representing something lighter than air.

They did a lot of acoustic songs as well as the heavy stuff and thats how they came up with the name that represented something light and something heavy. Similarly with Iron Butterfly.

Will do.

Big fan of Robert Johnson. There's alot of stuff around where Clapton wanks on about him. Even his "Crossroads" guitar festival a few years back is a reference to ole' RJ.

I've had a RJ doco on DVD lying around here for a while, might give it a whizz.

For the record, Zeppelin's folk/world stuff is quite good. Plant trying to vocal jam with a hundred year old instrument is a bit, odd, but Page kills it.

Twiz i didn't say led zep and sabbath were alike, just that Sabbath was a branch off from Zeppelin.

I agree with the rest of your post.

There are some bloody good bands out there still (3 Inches Of Blood, Opeth, Devin Townsend, The Butterfly Effect, Black Label Society, etc). But they remain underground because mainstream tastes are so simplistic.

Now, simple tunes worked wonders for bands like AC/DC - but at least their "simple" music was just complex enough that it was intriguing and interesting. To me, a lot of generic bands these days seem to play the same chords over and over again, use the same drum beats and same bass-lines but chop and mix it up to try and create a new sound.. They fail.

And what happened to singers with real vocal ability? Dio, Cam Pipes, Mikael Aferfeldt, Axl Rose (though I'm not really a G'n'R fan), Layne Staley...All with interesting voices. But these days it's all Brtiney this, Simple Plan that.

Of course they were.
*****

You Am I also did a cover of ''Lookin for a kiss'' from the new york dolls.

Tim Rogers has a solo song called ''letter to gene'' as in Gene Simmons.
He is /was a big fan .

Ron really has no idea about the Great Tim Rogers and You Am I.

To think I have seen Ron talk up Ratt for about 2 years .....( fuggen bizarre in itself )

but when they come all the way out to Australia he doesn't even get off his bum to see them.

WTF?

A bit off topic but I recommend the next album you buy is Dream Theater's "Awake" Carcharias.

lol they were rock.

I've been talking Ratt up actually for 4 years, and they were actually bigger then the Crue Bon jovi at one stage in the US. They have a magnficant guitarist and had great talent throughout, hell even there bassist Juan Croucier has a better voice then most groups today.

And i explained why i couldn't see them, and why would I? it isn't really them?
