This friend of mine saw The Ring when she was 16, and that night she was so scared she got into bed with her younger brother and she was nearly crying and she got him to keep talking to her because she was too terrified to go to sleep.

you have to remember that in the day of the exorcist movie it was the scariest movie ever made. back then i think it may have been the 70's or early 80's it was claased as a freaky movie and people even commited suicide over that movie they thought they were possesed by the devil and killed them selfs. my mum was telling m stories of how after they watcched it for the first time on the big screen , herself and her brother and sister were so scared they all bunked up in the same room and there house had rats in the roof and they just stayed awake all night.

The Exorcist when it was released in the 70's in the cinemas, was uber scary. There were reports of people having HEART ATTACKS in the cinemas when the movie was shown.
Having seen the movie a few times (on the small screen) I can imagine how people would have felt back then.
The crucifix scene is shocking, even by todays standard. NOT advised for people under 18. AT ALL!!!!!

Hostage Train still gives me nightmares. Just looking at Michael Sarrazin's eyes gives me the creeps.

Im An Exorcist freak...I have to admit it.
Its just the greatest horror movie made...The Book is just plain scary.

The 1st time i saw it i was 13 and it was on TV and edited out and no shit i couldn't sleep in my bed for 2 weeks.

But after that i was hooked...i even saw the new one they brought out in 2001.
It will never be passed as the scariest movie of all time.

Others worth a mention:
The Ring(The only horror movie made in this time that is actually scary forget all these new teeny booper horror movie and remakes)
Candyman
Nightbreed
Hellraiser
The Omen
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (The Orginal)

haha you weren't scared by the Exorcist but found Halloween H20 scary. How absurd.

The Exorcist was the scariest movie I'd ever seen fo sho when I first saw it, obviously it didn't have the same effect second or third time around. I wonder what version nibblet saw because the full unedited version has some pretty hardcore moments, where as H20, while entertaining, is just silly popcorn fodder. The original Halloween was much scarier.

Agreed on most of the but Texas Chainsaw Massacre??? personally i thought i was all hype, not scary at all

as for the exorcist, i love the scene where she runs down the stairs backwards, on her hands and feet with back arched (if that makes sense), and then throws up blood.....................Classic

That particular sequence wasn't in the original Exorcist, it was one of the 'bonus' scenes included for the anniversary re-release a couple of years ago. But I agree, it was a freaky little piece of work that had me requiring an urgent undies change.

Nah, there was just no tension for me, people walk in the house, and Bang leatherface kills em, but i do love the old man who sucks the chicks blood, and tries his best to hit her with the hammer

anyhow despite my dislike for the film, i own it on DVD :?

I heard the remake of TCM was pretty freaky. A few of my mates wished they brought spare Undies with 'em when they saw it. I never got a chance to see it sadly. Guess I'll have to wait till DVD.

To fully appreciate and understand the Exorcist you really have to read the book as well as seeing the movie. There are a lot of things that happen in the film that you will miss unless you read the book!

The Exorcist was years ahead of its time, and is still the best horror movie ever made, if no longer the scariest.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a disappointment when I finally got around to seeing it.

Roadkill is worth a mention as well, although it borders on 'thriller'. Its got a great chick in it too :p

i just watched wishmaster 4 last night and i must say that is preetygood not as good as 1,2 and 3 but i suggest people go and watch teh wishmaster series they are great movies.

i love all the freedy movies and the friday 13th movies hey speaking of jason and freedy anyone see freddy vs jason i loved that movie, i wouldnt say that its heaps scary but it does keep you in the edge of you seat and is a great movie.

the scariest movie i have seen lately would have to be the ring.
