In some startling revelations, The Daily Telegraph revealed on the weekend Israel Folau was comfortable coming back to the NRL but Dave Smith would only have him back if he joined a struggling club like Gold Coast.

Triple M's Ray Warren believes the story is spot on.
"It was a negotiation with Israel to see whether or not he had any desire to come back to rugby league," said Rabs, on Triple M's Dead Set Legends.
"He indicated that the answer was 'yes', he went to Todd Greenberg and put it to the boss, and [Dave Smith] allegedly said 'we can embrace him but he will have to go and play with one of the clubs we have an investment in.'
"So Israel walked away and said 'well, I'll go back to rugby union'."
I am starting to see why Smith was given the shove. I would like to know his logic behind how a player like Israel Folau, an amazing player yes but an outside back was going to turn around the Titans fortunes. He would probably put a few more bums on seats sure, but I don't know how much of an impact he would've had on their on field performances.

Parra, I suddenly sympathize with you a lot more.

That same story also says:
"He wanted to come back, for not a lot of money (around $110K, it's believed)… he wanted to come back and play with his mates. He wanted to have a game of footy, basically," laughed Warren.

Which to me shows the whole thing is a load of shit.

Wait, so he wasn't allowed to walk into a contender on a discounted rate, thus keeping the rich rich and the poor poor?

What an outrage!
Glad we've fixed that up with the Sam Burgess deal

He's obviously pulled this from the LtdNEws story a few days ago....

The story i heard (probably on here, i dont remember. Still, about as reliable as Ray) was that , if the ARLC was to chip in with that "war chest" thing, then he would be limited in the club he could pick...

Rabs is confused and is mixing up the weekend telegraph story with what happened 3 years ago when folau was leaving AFL & Smith wasn't even ceo. Parra getting fined for being over the cap is a pretty good clue, as is apparently going to the NRL to get marquee assistance to go to a club for only 110k.

The story from the telegraph was just more Wilson lies & half truths to conjure up yet another hatchet job against her arch rival Dave Smith, she claimed he would only come back if Smith dictated the club he went to, yet in the same paragraph claimed Smith refused to use the 'war chest'. So if the NRL refused to pay him a marquee exception how could he still dictate what club he could go to. Telegraph can't even lie coherently.

Warren is a senile old fool so there is not a lot of credibility there.

But if its true I actually see no problem. We have 1 primadonna that ran off for the money and now wants to come back and dictate terms.

If he only wants to come back to a successful club then stuff him. Why should a club thats already got a good squad just get better.

But aside from that wasn't it Parra that he wanted to go to ?
