They had a few good comedians on back in the day, before the likes of McLachlan and Vince Sorrenti. Seriously if Sorrenti can make it as a comedian there is hope for any poor bastard out there. He is horrendous. Haven't seen the show in a few years, I assume they still have him on every 2nd week.

Yeah, they did have good comedians during the halcyon days. Carl Barron was my favourite (and only fitting he was chosen to host "The best of Footy Show comedians" DVD).

Craig McLachan....oh dear, I still remember watching him die on stage at that Homebush episode. As funny as it was that his gig totally bombed, it was also one of the most awkward feelings, especially when after he said "What's worse than poo?" and someone in the audience yelled out "YOU!" Good old Craig would've done well if he had this parrot to replace him that night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ok-UCeO5cOY

Vince Sorrenti....that guy has been doing the same routine since the days he was on "It's a Knockout" back in the late '80s. Fair dinkum! Last time I saw him was on The Footy Show at the episode they did at Kingscliff in 2010, the day before Timana Tahu walked out of NSW camp. Man, the audience were pretty silent that night. But in saying that, Vince is not as bad as Peter Helliar and all those hacks associated with Rove McManus. Now HE was one of the most unfunniest so-called "comedians I've ever seen in this country.

Btw, what do you think of Anh Do?

He has been around since the 80's and they are still trotting him out? sad. Last time I had the displeasure of seeing Sorrenti he was telling Julian O'neill poo in shoe jokes on a GF footy show. What an advertisement for the code.

I like An Do, though i haven't seen him do standup in a few years, even purchased his book. Watched the movie he was in Footy Legends, which was a bit of a miss, average actor by his own admission but he is genuine bloke who loves his league.

Watched some re-runs of It's a Knockout years not long ago (I was born in the late '80s myself, so was too young to remember the show at the time) and yes, he was one of the special guests on that show and use to do some comic gimmicks between the games and was also a referee on that show. However, I do remember him being one of the regular stand-up comedians on Hey Hey It's Saturday (which I used to watch regularly as a youngster) during the '90s, so as you can see he has been around for a while. I know Vince is an avid league supporter (I believe he goes for the Eels IIRC), but he appears more on the AFL shows and the AFL folk subsequently have had enough of him:lol:: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/vince-sorrenti.637326/

And yeah, although I don't remember that GF show of him telling those Julian O'Neill jokes, I agree with you that it isn't a good endorsement for the game especially on the NRL's flagship tv program. Nevertheless, if you watch some clips on YouTube of his gigs, you can see that he recycles most of the same jokes, over and over again. In all of his appearances on the AFL Footy Show and also the World Cup Footy Show at Munich in 2006, he starts off with the same 'call-and-response' intro as well.

I went to a taping of The Matty Johns Show in 2010 (my friend had a spare ticket and I decided to go) and Anh Do was the warm-up guy before the taping began and during the ad-breaks. His stand-up was pretty good. Footy Legends was one of the last movies I watched in the cinema (I don't watch them now as most of them are complete utter crap and a waste of money). I watched it purely because it was about rugby league and Anh's brother - who was the director of the movie - could've done it better if he had a bit more time as it was very rushed and all over the place. Dunno what Anh does these days and haven't seen him for a long time. This was his first appearance on The Footy Show back in 2000: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5bh4WT9SKg

Much older episode I found here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=84QFxAlRKH8

When and where the hell was this episode? Hosts all dressed in Hawaiian clothing and this comedian getting escorted off stage by security at the end.

Thats Kenny Graham, hilarious. Shame he doesnt do his stand up gigs anymore, cause I loved it when he acted all p1ssed, reminded me of this bloke at the RSL after 20 schooners and come up with these one line jokes.

Im pretty sure this footy Show episode was in Wollongong the night before the City/Country game. I cant really explain the Hawaiian theme though. Surf city??

I actually saw Sorentti recently at a Footy Function, he was quite funny, with a fair few expletives. He might've been told to tone down on the Footy Show, and not be as funny.

Yep, my old man can vouch for this too. Reckons he was surprisingly good which caught me off guard because I've always thought of him as a poor man's Ray Romano...which is a fairly below the belt thing to say.

Always had a soft spot for Ahn. Not the funniest guy in the world, but I find him endearing and his routines generally have the odd guilty laugh here and there.

Pablo Francisco's bit was pretty stilted. I think it was him walking around a video store and making fun of certain dvd titles? For such a funny man it was pretty ordinary.

I guess the problem is not so much with the use of expletives but rather a large number of comedians these days who feel the need to use expletives in order to be funny to the point where the expletives start to "drown out" the performance. In other words, their entire routine is heavily dependent on them, but the minute they go on a tv show where they're required to sanitise their gig, they sound completely different and they're nowhere near as 'funny'.

Case in point is that person who did the Chopper Read impersonations on the Ronnie Johns show. When he appeared on The Footy Show, although he didn't bomb anywhere near as bad as Craig McLachlan, there were barely any laughs from the audience.

Really liked the segment with Gus and Dave Smith, if they can do a segment like that every week, Gus with a big name player or coach or CEO, it will make a big difference to the show. They are slowly getting better with the balancing out of funny and serious talk.

So refreshing to have an NRL CEO that can actually talk properly.
I IQ'd TFS last night mainly to watch this segment. Very impressed by Smith and you can tell Gould has quite a bit of time for him. He's a massive upgrade on the umming and Aaaahhhing puppet we had before.

yep, like Hey Hey It's Saturday - a once decent show that's been run into the ground

haven't watched it for a long time, but judging by comments on here it's trash that no garbage dump in the world would accept so it's stuck on Channel 9

Was pretty bad tonight,Beau just was not funny he tries way to hard for a laugh. and when they finally tried to discuss footy it was more unfunny stuff from Beau. It has been better so far this year but tonight was a major step back..

I don't watch it, I watch the Game Plan, except for Friday night footy and the odd delayed Sunday game, Nein doesn't exist on my TV.

How's it rating? I'd assume by the comments, not well
