The Footy Show 2013

I have hardly watched the Thursday show in years but that is as much to do with my lifestyle as the content. I'm not going to bag it because it is pretty important for the game to have a FTA presence during a time slot that doesn't feature a game. It gives the game a chance to access viewers who aren't 100% fans (yet, hopefully) and allows a chance for the game to promote itself in different ways and involve different sponsors etc. If TFS can get a couple of random companies to put some advertising $$ into the TV show, it could be a stepping stone for them to get directly involved in a club. Ditto for a couple of random viewers.

But anyway, I only clicked on this thread to say I watched a bit of it last night and thought that Beau Ryan ripping off SBW was pretty funny. I had a chuckle.

First hour was pretty good. Beau's thing with the Country team was funny as f**k.

thats right they won the logie lol, sums up that farce.

Most of the Logies that TFS wins (they've won a few) are decided by popular vote.

In other words, lot's of people, probably mainly footy fans, like the show and are motivated to vote for it.

What's the farce?

TFS gets pumped by people. A couple of years ago it was getting bagged in the media when it had 600k viewers and they were calling for it's axing due to under performance. At the same time The Game Plan had less than 200k viewers.

TV is pretty simple. When people like it they consume it, when they don't like it they don't touch it. The people have voted and they like their footy shows to be like "The Footy Show".

Mate i watch the show, i just don't think it's worthy of any awards. But when you are up against the Flogball one it's not much competition. Mind you i don't rate much on FTA TV and think the self important logies are a bit of a joke.

Australian FTA TV is a joke.

Beau Ryan is painfully unfunny and his segment has been flogged to death. Poor man's Matthew Johns

The lookalike segment is also f**king terrible and way overdone, the half of the photos looks absolutely nothing like any of the panel members.

Apart from that, I think the show has definitely improved from a few seasons ago.

This.

But when you are up against the Flogball one it's not much competition.

The Flogball version is up against another well-rating Flogball show, 'Before the Game' on Ch10 hence their popularity vote would be diluted making it easier for the NRL version to win with no strong competition from other NRL shows.

Australian FTA TV is a joke.

Both the Logies and most FTA tv have been a joke for years. The Logies aren't as prestigious as they were about 20 yrs ago or so. FTA tv has declined over the last decade. These days, I mostly only watch FTA tv for rugby league or cricket.

What's with look not very like segments? Every show has to have one and they're generally crap!

Beau Ryan - a pathetic example of modern day media. He's another one of these people who suffers badly from our current syndrome of people in the media who shouldn't be there. He's a sad portrayal of the wannabe comedian.

What's worse than a person who isn't funny ? - a comedian who isn't funny, but thinks he is.

The typical Look-a-likes before you even see the segment:

A fat person with a moustache = Daryl Brohman
A man with red hair who has a face out of a 70s porn flick = Fatty
A guy with a round, bald head = Sterlo
Dawn Fraser = Ray Warren
Martina Navratilova = Craig Belamy

You forgot about the annoying twat Slater laughing like its the funniest thing ever. He was given a token segment, much like Harrigan with "Thats gold"
Thankyou Foxtel for IQ where i fast forward that BS 5 mins.

Agreed!

I didn't mind Harragon when he made special-guest appearances on TFS during his playing days but couldn't stand him when he became the 3rd permanent pannelist - replacing Blocker - in 2001, and was glad when he was shafted (I don't buy this BS he came out with at the beginning of 2009 about how he was given another contract at Ch9 but HE decided it was time to "move on". A load of crap! He was sacked off the back of the show's then-worst ever season ratings and Vossy was brought in as his replacement, simple as that). He was embarrassing to watch on the show and I laughed even more when his single "That's Gold!" flopped on the ARIA charts. Last time I saw the CD was at a Big W clearance sale for $1.50:lol:

Fantastic player during his time at Newcastle, but contributed jack all to the show and hated how not only he would try to hijack the dialogue and start Knights wankfests with Matty at any opportunity (e.g. "Yes Sterlo, that try was just as good as the one Tahu scored last Friday night, isn't it Matty? Btw, how good are the Knights going?" etc etc. Even as a Knights fan, I found this very nauseating after a while, which is why I completely tuned out when Wendell Sailor tried to do the same thing with the Dragons during his time on TFS), but would also come up with stupid cliched lines such as "When Souffs are going well, rugby league is going well" and all that crap.

Thankyou Foxtel for IQ where i fast forward that BS 5 mins.

I'm surprised you even watch the show, Saab.

Much older episode I found here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=84QFxAlRKH8

When and where the hell was this episode? Hosts all dressed in Hawaiian clothing and this comedian getting escorted off stage by security at the end.

Brasher is on panel so would have been 96. Hawaiian shirts though, no idea.

They had a few good comedians on back in the day, before the likes of McLachlan and Vince Sorrenti. Seriously if Sorrenti can make it as a comedian there is hope for any poor bastard out there. He is horrendous. Haven't seen the show in a few years, I assume they still have him on every 2nd week.
