the futility of 'the bestest'

so often threads appear here declaring this guy or that guy the bestest at something

usually a pop star at guitar or something similair

i remember growing up when people would waffle about mediocre blues players like clapton or hendrix being the bestest guitar player in the world and ignoring real class players like sergovia who would shyte on anything done by pop players and remembering how annoying it was

its time to grow up people and learn the difference between your heros, just as likely because of cool looks and clothes like hendrix, or some studs and leather minor scale players like the guys from metallica, and actual skill

flame away

So your guitar tastes are better. OK

Tell them all to get real jobs. Skill hahahahaha.

Seems to me any idiot can play one.

well thats a fair challenge mr envy

and taste is what its all about

frankly i would be bored after 30 minutes of listening to sergovia and would much rather listen to ..tony iommi or brian may or dave gilmour

all guys that i certainly would put nowhere near the skill level of some of the masters

and even though i enjoy listening to such players more than some of the masters doesnt mean i would call them better players

also while i would rather listen to the chick who sings for the sneaky sound system - "i saw a UFO but nobody beleives me" - i sure as hell am not going to claim she is technically better than christina aguilira

but i would'nt listen for more than 2 minutes to aguilira whereas i could go and enjoy a whole show by the sneaky sound system

(and save a few bucks as well)

millers...sneaky sound system?

what , did you and your daughter get your ipods mixed up?

I have said many times on here.
there is more to music than playing diddly fuggen diddly diddly's on the guitar.

Lennon and McCartney were genius' in terms of pop music.
Burt Bacarach was.
Henry Mancini was.
R.Waters was .
A & M young are/is.

it all depends on what you like to listen to .

I have seen some insanely talently guitarists at different music shows.
Big deal....give me raw rock n roll in 4/4 any day.

What people don't understand is that being a good guitarist is about making good music, not about making music which is hard to play. Hence, Iommi, Berry, Blackmore et al. will always be top of the tree.

Miller, it doesn't matter what genre of music you are attached too, talent is obvious, wearing leather etc is part of the image nothing to do with their actual musically abilities, more a marketing tool if anythin.

I agree with Millers that Hendrix is f**king ordinary, a terrible technical guitarist, but hey? he was charismatic lol

Sneaky sound system came on th TV this morning.
They showed the song ''somebody in texas loves me''? not sure of the name...it sucked ..that I am sure of.

My 2 year old son said "Daddy , High Five'' and he started dancing.

"i saw a UFO but nobody beleives me"

lol had no idea they were the lyrics sung in that song, hear it on the radio but just mumble gibberish to it!

As for the argument, I guess most popular is often equated as best. Its obvious someone like Slava Gregorian is far more competant than Kurt Cobain but I bet the majority of the world have never heard of him.

Been thinking about this and you have an interesting point. As most classical/flamenco guitar (or really any instrumental) will bore the sh*t out of the majority of people who like a 4 min song with a hook, maybe someone could argue they are the best that can combine the 2.

Sergovia/grehorian etc obviously technically better than clapton/hendrix but the latter have the appeal of not boring people as much.

Which leads me to someone like Andrew Rieu, I have not heard his stuff and thus dont know his technical ability but he seems to have combined the boredom of classical music with a stage show that keeps the punters happy and if im not mistaken he has the largest sale of music DVDs out of anyone and gets a huge audience live.

He aluded to your comments that people get bored so this is how he can show them some mozart etc and keep them awake.

Kanye West is a fan of the Sneaky Sound System chick's voice. In fact, she did backing vocals for several songs on his last album. True story.
