You asked if they are paying anything I answered yes they areI’m not talking about their long term motives ..
How much are they offering to pay to acquire a 33 per cent share ?
Nobody knows how much now

They're looking at a 33% stake but 100% control. But it also mentions the possibility of forming a break away league:Yes but they plan on giving it back at cost to the English clubs once it’s turned around
So apparently the nrl will receive no payoff financially
I dunno how you see this big picture thingsThey're looking at a 33% stake but 100% control. But it also mentions the possibility of forming a break away league:
No upfront cost, just an annual grant and cap akin to NRL. they've already indicated an interest. They'd sign in a heartbeat.

Super league isn’t worth muchWell… I’ll be very interested in how much …. I can see PVL spinning about the value of the NRL name and their intellect property
Sounds very altruistic but in reality can you see the Australian clubs being willing to give up $160mill a year of their tv revenue to English clubs? For that matter even adding the UK $45mill a year tv rights to the pot the NRL doesn't have $200mill a year to give to English clubs if it wanted to.Under this structure, ALL revenue total would be spent evenly across all 30 clubs. That means Hull would have the same grant and cap as the rest of the league.
If the English/ French club receives a grant and salary cap akin to the NRL.. it will boom and be pulling its fair share of revenue.Sounds very altruistic but in reality can you see the Australian clubs being willing to give up $160mill a year of their tv revenue to English clubs? Pr is rightIf the English/ French club receives a grant and salary cap akin to the NRL.. it will boom and be pulling its fair share of revenue.
haha its not getting to $200mill plus plus! Its currently $45mill for the whole game in UK.If the English/ French club receives a grant and salary cap akin to the NRL.. it will boom and be pulling its fair share of revenue.
You've got some points but you underestimate what going global will bring in revenue. It's currently literally operating out of 1 corner in England.haha its not getting to $200mill plus plus! Its currently $45mill for the whole game in UK.
So again I ask do you honestly believe the Australian clubs are going to allow $160mill+ a year to flow out of the NRL coffers to NRL Europe, and even if they say yes where does the NRL get that sort of money from?
Much more realistic would be NRLE and NZ gets brought under the total sales deal to DAZN with say an initial $8 mill a year grant to NRLE clubs (currently the grant is around $3mill year in SL). That would give the NRLE clubs financial security and opportunity to grow and invest in key areas. Total cost around $100mill to NRL (grants plus running costs of comp) of which hopefully around $60-70mill is covered by NRLE tv deals. That would be achievable but still require a massive investment by NRL of $30-40mill per year with little ROI for years to come.
The NRL grant isnt $17mill anymore let alone in 2028 when all this would kick off. Some clubs got $21mil last year. You've got some points but you underestimate what going global will bring in revenue. It's currently literally operating out of 1 corner in England.
10 clubs is 170 million btw
That pop stat is irrelevant since soccer is the major sport everywhere in the m62 even WiganThe NRL grant isnt $17mill anymore let alone in 2028 when all this would kick off. Some clubs got $21mil last year.
Im sure it woudl be a boost to package it all together for a company like DAZN that has reach into all the relevant countries. But it isnt going from $45mill to $200mill for UK RL anytime soon!
pS the RL M62 corridor has a population not far off NSW + Qlnd.
The grand plan for Rugby league that will take the game into the stratosphere:
As the NRL looks to a 20 team competition.
They are also looking at buying into Super league and wish to control it, with a look to make it a 10 team comp( 2 French) Europe NRL ( details in the SL thread)
Well we are getting rather particular about a certain number of clubs.. Here's why.
3 Conferences of 10:
10 NSW team Conference
10 team outside NSW Conference
10 team European Conference
Same grant and salary cap accross each Conference, note that SL in now live every game on fox now.
Each team within each Conference plays each other twice .
Top 3 of each Conference progress to the finals with 1 Wild card .
10 team finals series.
It all adds up.
NRL will milk the ESL for players rather than raise them up to NRL level. If that was their intent why not just fund a NZ/Pacific local comp and nurture it to a nsw/qld cup level
My point exactly! To suggest RL is struggling as its in a 'small northern corner' as gob put it is a dumb statement to make. Its got nothing to do with population reach and everything to do with football being a behemoth right across the UK taking up nearly very $ and every bit of sports fan interest. there isnt a team sport in Uk that's doing that well anymore due to that issue. NRL will find the same struggle. That pop stat is irrelevant since soccer is the major sport everywhere in the m62 even Wigan
True but rugby league can be way bigger than it is esp as a summer sportMy point exactly! To suggest RL is struggling as its in a 'small northern corner' as gob put it is a dumb statement to make. They wont lead a breakaway league, thats just stupid talk.True but rugby league can be way bigger than it is esp as a summer sport
There’s a potential for a super league situation if some clubs push for Catalans to be booted
Esp if Dazn get the Aussie tv rights then funding a breakaway super league becomes feasible
