The grand plan

The idea is to include 2 french teams
And a Italian team. And Greece team
And Canada's Wolfpack team
Then continue USA league development
Sounds a little ambitious even for me. Wolfpack would be nice to have back and I'd go for a Dublin side as an expansion, they're good RU players, we could draw on that talent pool.

The SL needs an independent board to make decisions for the benefit of the game. Currently the clubs run the competition they act out of self interest and are running the sport into the ground, just as AFL and NRL clubs were before the Independent Commissions.

The top clubs in the SL feel the NRL should be the independent commission, get the game in shape and get the best tv deal.
Surely they could just hire a couple of decent sports administrators?

Remember how people said that Vlandys knows the Aus gambling industry, so he'd be able to walk into America and sign a massive deal there? Those same people are now saying he'd sign a massive UK TV deal because he knows the Aus TV market.

It's delusional garbage.

It's AFL fan style arrogance.

RL isn't the number 1 code there like it is in NSW and QLD.

Even Union, which is substantially bigger than League in the UK is a pimple on the arse of Soccer.

The biggest dilemma currently facing NRL expansion is that there's 3 solid options - NZ 2, Perth & South-East Queensland 4.. yet with PNG confirmed as team 18, there are only 2 spots left to get to 20 teams... and adding all 3 would make another team (team 22) necessary to avoid a guaranteed weekly bye.

Is SEQ4 really an option in next 10 years?

It has money in it's favor, and money talks.

Now that the NRL has skewed north with picking the Dolphins, the only sell-able option to the incumbents in SEQ is something that skews west.

True that even then it would need a good bit of "hush cash" to quell objections from those incumbents, but that shouldn't be an issue.

You're right in so far as the Dolphins/Broncos/Titans dynamic needing a bit of "bedding in" time, but if it's done after Perth & NZ 2 in the early to mid-'30s, very do-able.

I get the money, tv appeal and if its Tigers infrastructure in place. But realistically are the 3 incumbent SEQ clubs going to allow another competitor in anytime soon? news ltd owned Broncos only let Dolphins in after 25 years to get better outcomes for news ltd owned Fox subscriptions.

NRL to Titans, Dolphins & Broncos: "How much to drop your opposition, and at least just go along with a Western Corridor club?"

That's the key question.

Rugby league doesn’t need another Brisbane team so soon

Having said that Ipswich would be stronger than any other of the other expansion options out of png chch and Perth

With the population boom and Olympic Games it’s not an awful idea and would mean more Brisbane derbies

At a pinch it could be team 21, debut in 2031 (as I can't imagine the NRL having the hubris to launch a new team in the Olympics year itself, but more likely in the 2033-35 kinda time frame, with team 22 being closer to 2040.

HOWEVER..... if PNG sticks, and one of Perth or NZ 2 is solid while the other proves impossible to setup, then SEQ 4 becomes an essential part of a push to 20 teams.

PNG will be a massive success you watch

2035 for Ipswich if Perth doesn’t fall over

This is laughable. You think the Broncos are hating the boosted crowds underpinned by huge derby crowds against the Phins, Titans, Cowboys and SEQ Storm (lol)? They are booming because of the game's expansion in SEQ. I think waiting a decade is fine but The Jets add yet another big derby match to the roster and the Broncos, Phins and Tits will probably welcome it

Why did the Broncos take so long to welcome it in the first place then?
