The grand plan

"So the inclusion of French teams creates significant economic impact. How much of that is actually finding its way back into the very club that made that happen at Leigh? And that's the challenge we have to get right.

"You know, I keep getting told we shouldn't build a club on away support. I keep having that kind of thrown into discussions. And that's entirely right.

"But at the moment, there's an imbalance because you know full well that British supporters will go en masse into France, whether that's the Championship club who is going to Toulouse or the Super League club who is going to Catalan. But the reverse doesn't happen.

"So we have to find a way to work to the benefit of both the British game and the French game."
f**k this is the most backward shit I've read

It’s also bs! HKR took 1800 other week and it was a record. No way in world Leigh took anywhere near 4000!

the irony is hkr‘s biggest crowd this year, and stadium record, was v dragons as we didn’t have to allocate any away seats and could sell them all to our own fans!

Whether it's true or BS is equally concerning. Aren't those quotes from Wood? I'm not following it closely but it's he either in charge or trying to get back in charge? So he either is telling the truth which is a backwards attitude from a leader of the sport, or he doesn't know what he's talking about and just spewing backwards rhetoric

It’s the latter and why so many people have been against his appointment. clubs have forgotten all the sht he did and just focused on the tv deal he landed. clubs sacked him due to incompetence and now have decided he’s the man to lead the game. You could‘t make it up!

Hopefully IMG gets to keep doing their thing, from what I can see they've actively got clubs improving on the important metrics

Teams 13 and 14 won’t be picked according to the img criteria but other criteria of which img ranking is just one
I can't believe they spent all that money to get IMG directing them.. a firm that specialises in finding the best path forward for your competition..then be like: yeah nah..

If there was any doubt that these clubs will only ever act in short sighted self interest.. it's gone.

NRL- bribe the clubs you want in, probably 6 or 7 , then open a bidding process for the rest:
Ten team league:
Saint Helens
Wigan
Leeds
Warrington
Hull fc
Hull kr
Catalans

That leaves 3 spots open for bids!
London
Bradford
York
Toulouse
Toronto
Cardiff
Dublin

Anywhere, it's an open invitation for bids!
$$$
Location
Stadium

Open the bidding!

I can see the logic of not just going on Img grades this time around. By all accounts team 13 and 14 won’t get a grant in 2026 so criteria one has to be do they have a business case and investment to show 3-4mill pounds available to operate in 2026.
Second key criteria is will they make SL more attractive to tv and help get a bigger tv deal for 2027?

Neither of those points are in img grading but are critical for any prospective SL clubs for expansion in 2026. So yes going with 12 based on grades. ( the current the agreement), and two expansion spaces based on specific business cases does make sense.

its funny you are so apoplectic about this when you’ve been biggest cheerleader for likes of Toulouse and other new areas to come in and this basically is giving every opportunity for that to happen!

Realistically team 12 will be decided by img criteria so that’s obviously toulose over Salford

As long as that happens then the other two spots being decided by who brings the most away fans (it’s more than just that is fine)

Bradford has to be one they are a big club

York could tip London cause it’s closer to the heartlands

The worry is clubs like Oldham and widnes might get one of the spots

Going to 14 teams is actually a very positive move especially after union killed off 3 teams

Yes, I definitely want a Toulouse team and I'm happy it's going to 14 if it means the likes of Toulouse and London are in but they'll literally going to die straight away if they're not going to receive anything from Television rights ect.
So all the clubs are in favour because they have a better product to sell to their fans but don't want to give said teams any of the take.

How would you like a Perth team?
Yes!
Great but you're not getting any grant money.
Imagine just how impossible it would be for Perth to be successful with no money? Heck, you were arguing that they should get more!
